  • Have a look on anandtech, the majority of the posters there build their own computers but a few buy them and when there's a computer in Aldi they usually comment on it so you can get an idea of whether it's any good or not.

That's why I made the statement clever clogs.

You forgot the other software as well, no doubt, what about a TV Card and Remote Control?
  • If you'd really like to be that pedantic then go for it. All I was saying, and I stand by it, is that you can build a much better specced PC for your money, you may pay slightly more, but at least you know what you're getting in terms of components.

Im not here to argue with you, please stop being so defensive and try and help this person out.

I need a new PC for home entertainment and love the idea of being able to download from iplayer and transfer onto DVD ?

Is there anything out there better ?

I have two mates who have bought Medion PCs from Aldi before and they only have good things to say about them. One had a fault with his monitor recently and they came the next day and replaced it for him, so as far as customer care they were good for him.

It depends on what your are going to use the PC for. If its just general stuff, email, letter writing, speadsheets, downloading music, burning CDs/DVDs, surfing and some gaming, it will be more than sufficient. I have a 5 year old unbranded PC that I can do those things with and its no-way near as powerful as the Medion.

However if you want to play very high-spec games or lots of video editing it probably wont be the PC for you, but to be fair if you were into those things you probably would know you would need a more powerful PC anyway.

In my opinion the vast majority of people only use a fraction of a PC's capability. You can buy better, faster and more powerful PC's but you would probably be wasting your money if you did.

I always liken PC's to cars. Yes you could buy a Porsche but if your only going to drive it to the supermarket once a week then do you really need the extra expense, power and performance?
  • I have had my Medion for 4 years and it's still working fine. I would buy another, the high spec buys you time.

  • Welcome to MSE forums Amatuer, can I borrow your Porsche to pop to Sainsbury's.

As for the PC it looks ok to me as soon as you can get rid of the vista off it :D
Nothing to see here, move along.

Thanks. Wish I had a Porsche, probably wouldn't be on a money saving forum if I could afford one !!

The PC is more than adequate for most peoples needs. Not used Vista, is it that bad?

I was actually helping this person, I gave my hands on experience of 2 Medion Computers, I did not come here spouting about " Home Made " computers, that can never truly compare with the value of this computer.

Not everyone wants to put a load of unmatched components in to a tin box. at additional cost, with less warranty.

"Not used Vista, is it that bad"
vista is not that bad any more it's only bad on old pc's using old hardware put you would expect that.
that Medion PC should run vista quite well
just has long has you do not start putting old software on that do's not work with vista and thats not a lot any more
the thing you will have to watch is your printer, scaner's,digital camers ect if there years old they mite not work right with vista and nore will there software
and rumars of sp1 for vista is just run the corner in march for download or when your drivers become compatible with it.

My son bought a Vista PC with 1GB memory on it, compared to his previous 6-7 year old AMD/XP box with half the memory, the new one runs like a slug. This is a money saving forum so we should all probably steer clear of Vista.
