  • Guys, be careful, B&Q have just told me that my payment was rejected, I am currently chasing this up, CC have confirmed no problem their end, it maybe a way of getting out of this.

Will update when i know more
  • Just checked my credit card statement online and money has been taken from my credit card.
  • Hi everyone
Just checked my account and money has been taken
    B & Q DIRECT . £377.11
    Fingers,toes everything crossed!
  • The money has left my account also, so just waiting to hear something either way from B&Q.

They say to allow three weeks for delivery so I was suprised to read that antoher poster says his is due for delivery tomorrow. Hope he isn't winding us up cos that would be soooo mean :o .

It wouldn't be B&Q phoning as it would come direct from supplier.
indeed, when I have just phoned to check my order, I was given the conservatories company no. to check delivery, so no apparent problem at B&Q end. When I asked about my order at the company they told me that all these deliveries have been cancelled off their system because there was a mistake with the price! No!!! I let out a suitable gasp when she told me the real price :) and they had an email which she read to me saying that B&Q will be phoning all affected customers....
    Sorry Folks!
Ah well, it was a nice idea...
  • It seems that B&Q may have got themselves into a tricky situation. I don't know a lot about contract law, but there are similarities with the Kodak case which you can read about here...

    http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2002/03/21/185858/what-is-an-invitation-to-treat.htm

The special offer price (which is probably the best way of looking at it) on the website was the 'invitation to treat'. Buyers responded with an offer to purchase the item when they gave their personal and payment details. It was then up to B&Q to consider the offer and choose whether to accept it or not. B&Q would be quite within their rights at this point to refuse to sell the item if they wished, just as if you went to a supermarket and went to the checkout with your goods they could refuse to accept your offer to buy.

The fact that B&Q sent an email response (which also refers to a 'contract') and that they have taken payment for the goods, means it can be assumed that they accepted the offer at the price indicated.

The item was also shown as being part of the "BIG SALE" and so it could be assumed that the low price was a genuine special offer. This price was also confirmed to the people who ordered by phone.

Another point... B&Q's T&C's under 'General Conditions' also state that...

"Ownership of the goods shall remain with B&Q and shall not pass to the Customer until the agreed price for them, together with all other sums due from the Customer to B&Q, have been paid in full."

Here's hoping that everyone gets what they ordered (and paid for!)

I would urge anyone who ordered one to check that the money has left the account, mine was merely authorised (ringfenced) but not taken. I am waiting for a response at the moment from customer relations
  • I just checked my CC statement online and it's showing an entry for B&Q Direct for the sum of £377.11

    Oh the suspense of it...
  • I refer you back to my earlier posts this has been played out loads of times before
