wasnt talkin bout SD... so u sayin between collection from post office to u receiving the item at the delivery office, theres no delay? As a long serving "old school" postie I take extreme exception to your comment "whenever the postie feels like delivering", and I regard it as offensive. To set the record straight SD items are as you say guaranteed next working day and they travel seperately to the ordinary mail and are tracked at each stage of their journey. RD items cost only 70p on top of the 1st class stamp and travel as ordinary 1st class mail and the only difference is that they require a signature on delivery. They are only tracked onto the system at this point. They do NOT get delivered when we feel like it - they get delivered on the day they arrive at the delivery office.
so what happens when collected at post office?? whats the cause of the say 10 day delay from when posted to when delivered?
whats goin on in that time??0 -
We have been informed by our online biz customers that the post office are being a little naughty
but many post offices are pushing customers to use sepcial delivery which is more expensive and makes the post office more money
it seems to becoming more common and we are getting compliants daily that customers are paying an £8 on average when £3 would have done the job

This is now a common practice in the retail trade, up-selling. Persuade the customer to buy something he didn't come in for.
You buy a paper and are asked, "would you like a pound of rhubarb to go with that?".
The shop assistant HAS to ask that, a mystery shopper will mark them down if they don't - which could affect their pay/bonus.0 -

Guess it depends on how pushy they are. I don't think my local PO have ever really suggested SD unless it was appropriate to do so, e.g. the value of the item was more than the compensation on recorded etc. Any problems I have with Royal Mail et al aren't anything to do with my local PO which has always consistently been brilliant. But I guess that kind of service isn't neccesarily found in all post offices."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

it maybe(from what i read here) the po has identified issuesw with RD and are trying to help the customer by offering SD0

Royal Mail Special delivery "Guaranteed Delivery"
Paid supplier to ship my goods Special Delivery, Saturday delivery.
Post office accepted package and charged £21.45 for Saturday delivery.
Package marked with Saturday delivery marker.
RM failed to delivery on Saturday, package received the following Monday.
Postman confirmed that it should have been delivered Sat.
Signed for package and noted Monday delivery date on the signature.
Checked RM SD tracking and it was confirmed package was delivered on the Guaranteed day !.
Contacted RM by email, no reply received.
Sent letter to customer services together with a coloured copy of the SD label, postal paid label and Sat delivery marker.
After two weeks received a reply requesting senders SD delivery receipt.
Contacted sender, he was not interested as I had received the package !

In your case your issue is with the seller not RM. If you want a refund for the postage it's the seller you need to claim from as he is the one you have the contract with. If the seller then wishes to claim of RM then that's his business. There's no existing contract between you the recipient/buyer and RM."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

We have been informed by our online biz customers that the post office are being a little naughty
when customers return goods to us under £34 in value they can do so using recorded delivery - also known as signed for
but many post offices are pushing customers to use sepcial delivery which is more expensive and makes the post office more money

im sure if u sent an item with a value of over £34 and the po staff didnt offer u SD, and that item got lost, ud be ranting that they didnt offer u spec del? we're only trying to protect the customer when offering SD. we are advised to ask, is it valuable, is it urgent, do u need proof of delivery? we dont push SD on you, just advise whats the best service from the answers we recieve.
we live in a world of upselling, get over it.0 -
just wait till the bulk of po's are closed and people are travelling miles to use them.
probably tucked in the back of wh smiths0 -

The problem I have with Royal mail is...
1... Saturday delivery was paid for and accepted by the post office
2... The Guaranteed Saturday delivery failed
3... Royal mail tracking confirmed the package was delivered on the Guaranteed day, when it was not !
4... The supplier does not want to know as Royal mail has confirmed "the package was delivered on the Guaranteed day"
5... Royal mail has not changed the delivery status to failed to deliver on the guaranteed day, so supplier will take no action.
6... Now Royal mail do not want to know as it is outwith their 14 days of posting claim requirements..... took them over 14 days to reply to me !0 -
hi deecee,
sorry to hear of your problem, must be very infuriating. cant believe Royal Mail (not The Post Office) has pulled such a stunt.
what you really need to do is get a copy of the card that you signed for delivery on (the one you noted monday delivery on). are you chatty with your postman? if so, see if he has any advice or could possibly get a copy of the card for you? its outrageous that RM have recorded a sat delivery for the item when it was not delivered till monday. are you sure there wasnt a delivery attempted on the saturday, but you wasnt in to accept delivery? its possible the item might of come with a seperate delivery van on sat, rather than with the regular postman.
if u have no luck with getting a copy of the card via your postie, ring customer services on 08457 740 740. if it comes to it and RM have to produce the delivery card as evidence, its gonna show delivery wasnt till monday wouldnt it?
maybe custardy could give some input.
