This is the kind of scam you find on e-bay where people offer 'tickets to FA Cup Final', you pay your money, you get no tickets and no refund from your CC/Paypal. These poeple, when caught, tend to go to prision for deception.
Just becuase B&Q are big and ignore your complaints, doesn't mean they are not exactly the same as the e-bay thieves. What is the difference here, B&Q have our money, they've supplied nothing, they don't answer calls. This is criminal activity I'm sure.
Jason, all of you guys have my sympathy with what's happened, it's unprofessional at the very least, but put it in perspective, it's not really like you describe it.......... you can't call it criminal activity!! They have, shall we say, "mis-judged" stock against demand, and their systems are by no means even "good" as they only update stock once a day. But they had every intention of supplying the items, and legally they have done what they should, offer refunds. It's not what anyone wants and good luck on trying to get more from them........ but watch how you say things, becuase you can not sling accusations around about it being criminal activity......
Please don't take this post the wrong way, I understand the anger and frustration, been there myself!Waddle you do eh?0 -
They have taken everybody's money. What would have happened if the next day they had gone bust, none of us would have been on the list of creditors. I just don't think they should take your money without knowing they had stock, if the stock is updated daily it does not take 16 days to decide we have not got any more left, but we'll keep your dosh and earn our bit of interest until we feel you night be getting annoyed.0

yeah and didn't refund until we rang their 0870 number enough times ...I ddan't believe that I had to contact THEM about a refund....0

But if you want your money back, just ask for it, I know you want the goods, but they are not with-holding your money, there is a big difference!
I'm not trying to start a flame on this, yes I agree they shouldn't have taken the money if they had no intention to supply, but, from the sounds of it they had every intention to, and B&Q were let down. (Which is not our fault I know.)My point was just you cant accuse anyone of having no intention to supply or that it's criminal activity!
And the reason it took 16 days, they were waiting to try and get hold of new stock, it wasn't witholding money.Waddle you do eh?0 -

I think the issue for me is they have lied about the whole situation.
Endless phonecalls, endless different phonecalls.
Telling us we were definately getting something, and reassuring us when we rang again, and then a week later telling us "Tough" we're getting nothing. They have the means to supply an alternative. They are just refusing to, because they are seeing a short term financial loss, rather than the long term gain of keeping customers happy, and keeping our custom.
OK, in perspective it isn't a big thing. And my boy isn't upset because TBH he doesn't even know about it.:rudolf:0 -

This is also my view, small fortune in 0870 charges just to be strung along for 2 weeks before the tough your not getting one ..and by the way we will keep your money for another week!!!0 -

I agree B&Q customer service is appaling, the local store is a perfect example, as is the "Direct" part of the set-up. But I don't think anything has been done deliberately to mis-lead customers and trying to prove "loss of a bargain" will be extremely hard. But good luck to everyone who tries...... hope it works out. I'd certainly try and get some money back for calls etc...... I'm sure they'll dish out some compensation.... £10/£20 or so without too many problems.
I would be as angry as everyone here if mine hadn't shown up, as it is, mine is missing bits and I know they'll never replace them.Waddle you do eh?0 -
I would argue that the stock isn't updated daily - If it was, then ALL products would show in stock and available for the full day.
What looks to happen is their stock levels, which would be set or worked out overnight, are uploaded to their website overnight and made available 6:30-7:00am (ie. 100 Ben Nevis's, 50 Mattahorns etc..)
As people purchase these items the stock counter for these items would reduce until there is no stock left. ie. @10am 'Temporary out of Stock.' This is what looked to have happened on Monday 18 July, Tuesday 19 July and Wednesday 20 July.
Now either the person or system responsible for working out the overnight/available stock levels has failed or they were ordering extra stock in each night from the supplier and offering them on there web site as 'In Stock'.
What's anoying is that this happend THREE days in a row - So this would have me believe that it wasn't a technical glitch (blame the system...sigh...) But DIY.COM believed they were obtaining more stock.
So either the supplier has pulled out or B&Q realised they weren't making money.
This is just my theory.

PhilCCFC wrote:Can I ask the people that have definitely been let down, have you had any written confirmation from B&Q other than the email? Just wondering as I have received a sales advice slip today from them.
So far no-one has posted in reply to this who has had written confirmation and then been let down. Just to add to this, today monies have been taken out of my account. I will be giving the delivery centre another call today to see whether a date can be given yet. Despite the numerous false starts everything appears to be running through as a transaction should do...for now anyway, we'll seeThey say that football is a religion, if this is true I worship at the Exacta Stadium, Chester0 -
With regard to B and Q not acting properly can I add my thoughts to the subject. I am waiting for a Table Tennis Table so I can not comment on what is happening with the swings. When I was phoned by a "manager" I asked him why they couldn't get me a tennis table and asked the following questions and got the following answers.
1. Has the supplier gone bust
Answer - No.
2. Has the supplier stopped producing table tennis tables
Answer - No.
3. Why can't I have one then
Answer - Because we don't know when we will get stock in, so we have to cancel your order!!!!!!!!!
4. Why can't you try and find out when you will get stock in. I am prepared to wait.
Answer - We have tried to find out but we can't so we have to cancel.
5. I then commented that my belief was that because money had changed hands my understanding of the law was that the item had to be provided if it could be obtained anywhere, even if it meant B and Q going into Argos or Toys R Us to purchase the item at a loss. A solicitor confirmed this to me on another deal a few years ago. The company at that time were Argos who in the end supplied the item. As long as the item can be bought B and Q have to provide the item.
Answer - I will go and speak to the legal team. Goodbye.
My best guess is that B and Q can't get the tables at the same cost price as they had before and so to fulfill their orders would mean that they have to make a loss. I still believe that because they took money they are legally obliged to supply the item even it means making a loss. The only way they can back out is if they can prove that it is impossible to get the item. My thoughts is we are talking about a table tennis table that according to them is still in production, not a Van Gough original. If I could go to the supplier directly and get one then so could B and Q.
Just my thoughts.0
