New Car No Tax Disc

Well isn't that just dandy! What happens if you are, for any reason, involved in an accident which results in you or anyone else being seriously injured (or worse) and having no tax invalidates your insurance or maybe you would not even insure the car? Think again, buddy!
Wkdwill, congrats on getting your car, hope all is okay with it and it serves you well.
Here we go again, the old myth that no VED or no MOT will invalidate your insurance. Where in your policy does it state this?0 -

haha, Wig, on your high horse.
My Endsleigh policy says that it is conditional of having a valid MOT test and the car being road worthy. Its made very clear before you even buy the policy.0 -

Hooray, we have a winner! Most policies do not mention it. Yours does, so it would not be covered, except for TP losses and except on days when you were driving to and from a pre booked mot test.
Does yours mention VED? If not then the above scenario would not invalidate your insurance.0 -
And/or towed !!!
You would not be legal to drive it or tow it home. If it is not too far and you can do it under cover of darkness, you might aswell go for it, I doubt you will be caught.
If there is no rush you can buy it and ask the seller to wait a day or two for your insurance certificate to arrive in the post. Then tax it.
Or
Go to a highstreet insurance broker who will be able to issue you with a covernote there and then, you can then tax it at P.O. and drive it home 100% legal.
"I doubt you will be caught". You could do lots of things without being caught but that doesn't mean to say they are right. And certainly it should not be advised to break the law on a public forum.0 -
Actually mine does (Admiral)! It is a condition of most policies that your car is road-legal (i.e. it has a MOT)
No, most say, just "roadworthy", and that does not mean MOT. I just checked Endslieghs policy and they do say roadworthy and where regulations require a valid MOT. So that's fine, the policy says it therefore it is a requirement. But they (endsliegh) do not mention VED which is what this thread is on about, and so the poster above who said it would invalidate was wrong IMHO.
Admiral says just roadworthy like most other policies, does not mention MOT or VED.0 -
Why the heck not? If the law is an A$$ why should I or any one else give a damn.
Well I sincerely hope that an uninsured driver does not run into you at some stage, leaving you in pain, unable to work or enjoy life!
Or there again, maybe I am lying and hope that your idiot views actually do end up biting you.0 -
Academic I know as the OP has sorted a car.
But 2 points, I for one would risk a drive home provided the car was mot'd and insured, just my opinion, I'd be taxing it immediately and would feel no reason not to drive it home. Yes I know if I had an accident I could be in for a bit of hassle..........
2ndly, the car was from a dealer, it would be a pretty poor outfit that wouldn't slap the trade plates on and get the car to your home, what was it, 18miles?.
As an aside didn't it use to be a requirement that all dealers had to supply their cars with tax? I'm sure many years ago being told that or maybe it was just the company's policy?;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
As above I'd have driven it home without tax.
It's worth doing a vehicle enquiry on a car you buy via dvla, we bought one and discovered it was still taxed but did not have a disc, we drove it for the next few days until the docs came and we could buy a valid disc.0
