Private number plate sale ideas welcome

Hi
I recently bought a private number plate from DVLA for £799.
It reads MR08OND. Hopefully to a James Bond fan or Mr. O Bond it should be worth something more.
The big question is how to go about marketing the plate so that I can sell it. Ideally I'm anticipating a sale after James Bond's new film is released.
I've approached a number of private plate dealers for quotes and re-sale via them for a commission. Also, looking to approach a number of Aston Martin dealerships to see if they're interested?
I would love to hear your ideas, thoughts and experiences of such venture.

Yes I agree it might sell for a profit, but I still can't get my head around people paying a arm and a leg for a few letters and numbers;).
Is it just a British thing??:D0 -
I think it's barmy, but hey, each to their own!0

I belong to several car forums. Beware that if you do purchase a personal plate you do not mis-space any of the letters or try and make it read something it is not. The police are cracking down on this because of the problems it causes their Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras.
There have been several members on the car forums who have been stopped by the police. Some have been warned and told to get their plates changed and take the car to a police station to have it checked and some who have been told this and been given an on the spot fine as well.0 -
Hi there, I'll move this to the Motoring Board

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

Slight correction, it reads MR08 OND
Do you know if I saw that on the car infront I wouldn't give it a second glance. I hope you cover your outlay. but I wouldn't be too sure.
Tell you what, when you've sold it come back and tell us how much for. Preferably with the Ebay item link.0 -
Thanks for the ideas.
I've received four valuations to date:
Regtransfers: £800 - just making £1 profit - very cheeky offer!
Regcar: £2,500 - making a tidy profit of £1,701
Personally Yours: £5,000 - profit of £4,201
Plate Master: £1,500 - profit of £801* - Willing to buy outright from me.
All other dealers are prepared to market the plate but Plate MAster is willing to buy the registeration outright from me.
I got to start ringing up Aston Martin dealership - how do I break the conversation?
Will consider eBay but trying to get some ideas on price. Also, trying to market plate to upmarket clients.
Please keep those ideas coming! :T0 -

Why?
Mis-spacing it gets you to Mr O Bond?
The connection with a Mr J Bond is what exactly? And even if you can define "what", I doubt it's worth more than the £799 you paid for it.
You've had your pants pulled down my friend.........and by a Government department as well.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

Get real, nobody is going to give you a profit on that number, not even those that say they will, yes they will add it to their lists, take a nice slice if they find another plonker to buy it.0 -
Thanks for those of you with interesting views. I don't know where people get their comments from. I don't have to justify my investment to anyone, I was just seeking friendly advice. I did not anticipate hostile responses but at least it gives me an idea of what some people can be like.
I'll sell the plate for a tidy profit in next 6 months.
It's as close to MR BOND as you can get it. Yes it reads Mr O Bond but hey you can never be perfect, can you? How many Bond plates can you find for sale, and what are they priced at? If you follow Bond then you'll know his new film is out in November 08.
If people did their research they'll know but their low intelligence takes over from their lack of research.
Never mind, and thank you to those who gave me positive feedback/encouragement.0
