GGrrrr! I have been repeatedly emailing Dell requesting the XP recovery discs for all the reasons given above - absolutely no luck - I keep getting fobbed off with the "Microsoft no longer supply them" line, and requests for me to phone the technical assistance line for help with any problems which arise! Should I phone (again!) and try again - (asking who to complain to is a good idea, sc52!) or is it time to give up? It gets a bit wearing........[0

Good heavens - that was a surprise! I've just rung the Dell tech. support line, expecting the usual blah, the guy pulled up my details, said "I see you have been enquiring about the XP discs, Ma'am" So I said "I have indeed, and I still want them, and would be grateful if you could send them straightaway." Him:"That is fine - you will receive them tomorrow" Well - I am stunned. I did enquire why on all my previous calls I had been told they weren't available, and he just apologised and repeated that they would be with me tomorrow, and that he'll phone me to check. I had all the arguments ready, who shall I write to, etc - he rather took the wind out of my sails, lol. So, it seems persistance is the key - what a waste of time and energy, though- they should just send the b things in the first place![0

I wouldn't bother emailing them, far more chance of them giving in to persistent telephone calls, far easier to fob off or ignore an emailer
Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -
That would be difficult for me! I've taken out the X300SE video card (that's going on Ebay shortly) and the modem (stuck in a box somewhere). I don't see why anyone should be expected to keep returning their PC to factory condition whenever there is a problem - what are you supposed to do with all your data??Dell said that the pc would be returned to the state that it was when delivered
p.s. I still haven't got my XP or driver discs. Don't care about the XP disc because I already have one from the last Dell I bought, but it's the driver disc that I really want. And they can't say it's Microsoft's fault because Bill doesn't write Dell's drivers!
You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
My hardrive has started to make a terrible buzzing noise!.When i take the side panel off and give it a push it stops, but then it starts up again later...
Anybody know the scroe on getting a replacement or do they collect it and repair(3 week old hardrive!)0 -
Even more stunned - the discs have actually arrived!! Although the receptionist at work did get a bit fed up with repeated phone calls from Dell checking that someone would be there to sign for them
Hope DS never needs to use them, but getting them became a matter of principle (and pig-headedness!)
Good luck to everyone else................[0 -
Steve9999 I would ask for a replacement if you are in the 90 day time period. My hard drive in the first Dell was noisy and they replaced it (after holding the phone to the computer so they could hear it!) within 7 days. They still have not collected the other one.0
