I would ring them straight away - ask them to reinstate your order! Especially if you've received the PDFs.

According to yesterday's Guardian Dell are going to be honouring the super-cheap (£4 up to £140) desktops from late August if someone has "written confirmation." I am wondering what written confirmation means - after all, most of those who ordered will have received email confirmation after ordering. I thought that this bargain was daed and buried? Tx

The 1st email is confirmation of your request to buy.
The email with the PDF attachments is the one that confirms that they have agreed to supply.
So if you got that email, you can have the PC
    Be nice

Aaaarrggghhhh! Just checked with the Dell site, says still in stage 3 (production) and the estimated delivery date has suddenly changed from 8/9/05 to 22/9/05! DS goes off to Uni on 17/9, and it's for him........!
Does anyone think it's worth phoning Dell, or would that not help matters? I'm so disappointed, I just wanted things to go smoothly for him (yes! I am a worry wart mother! :o ) Still, I suppose it could be an excuse (I mean a reason!) for an early visit! :D

I would definitely phone - surely that can't be THAT short of bits?

Well - that was like wading through treacle  Tried phoning 0870 9060010 and 01344 860456 with the same result - customer care operatives (in India, at a guess) who just checked the order status and said there was a lead time for some components, possibly the monitor, and then wanted to know how I'd rated their performance?! and could they close the case?! The second one I spoke to offered to sign me up to the delivery watch scheme, which I'd already done. So basically it looks like I'll just have to be patient (unless anyone wants to swap, lol!). I think I'm quite close to you, biglugs.......... ;):D

    Strange...
I remember reading on their website 2 weeks ago that they were short on 15" TFT's and that they advised ordering 17" so you wouldnt be delayed.
    Marketing tactic?
Either way, surely now the 17" cant be short. If thats true, it would mean that they wouldnt be able to ship the average Dell as its their current standard for a decent spec.
The PDF should have had a estimated date.. probably around 8th September.
I would request to speak to a manager and explain the situation politely. Inform that the production date has just had 2 weeks added to it, and that naturally you are very disappointed with their usually high service.. blah blah blah

Yes, I thought it was odd. The trouble with phoning was I was passed from pillar to post, and they seemed to have difficulty understanding what I was saying to them - they were giving me answers which didn't really relate to what I was asking  They just kept repeating the information on the screen about the estimated delivery date, which I could see for myself, rather than offering any help/suggestions. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow, and ask for a manager. Thanks for suggesting that!
