Daily budget for holiday in Lanzarote?

Tillyboo... just a thought... are you going to be here a week today? If so, then get a taxi or bus down to Playa Blanca for the day and night. It's carnival here!!! If you've never been to a carnival in Lanzarote... well, let's just say it's not to be missed. Everyone is in Fancy dress, the procession is fantastic, and then we all party in the streets until the early hours.
Oh, and update on the weather - my weather expert pal says that mid/end of next week might be the dodgy time. Bring your brolly... but it should clear for the weekend.

Background:-
The Lanzarote Beach Club was opened in 1985 as a top quality timeshare resort in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. At its peak it is believed there were over 18,000 owners. It was for many years the most exchanged into resort in Europe.
LBCMA was formed in 1989 by a small group of owners due to a 389 % increase in maintenance in one year alone! Since its inception LBCMA has seen many alarming activities at LBC, many of which have been unconstitutional. At the same time we've seen many consumers persuaded to buy into LBC2, a plot of land next door due to be built to even higher standards than the already 5 star LBC, but to this day LBC2 has never been built!
Also many owners at LBC and LBC2 were persuaded to join IVC, which has been the cause of many complaints about poor quality accommodation at exorbitant prices.
But in 2000 the management started a campaign to remove all the owners, firstly by increasing annual fees then, in 2003, by demanding massive extra levies with no explanation and refusal to provide copies of accounts - with the result that many owners refused to pay and walked away.
Then, on February 5 2004, the LBC was wound up and all owners lost the rights of use.
As a result some 18,000 people have lost approx. £150M.
This sad story of LBC was told on BBC Wales on the 23rd of March 2004 with a further episode on 15th March 2005. LBCMA is a Members Club and only acts on behalf of its Members.0 -

Yes ElleHi there Oxters. I don't know the specifics, but it sounds like the "Lanzarote Beach Club" debacle. www.lbcma.org might have more info for you. If it IS the one you mean... then it's certainly been a sore point with people here, as you would expect.
Elle xx
That's the one. We were very lucky to body swerve the scam completely but thousands of others have lost fortunes. Lessons in life and all that.
Enjoy your carnival.0 -
Thanks oxters, we will. We're getting dressed up, and will be taking photos. Glad you weren't caught out by the scam. As I say, I don't know a lot about it - only that hackles are raised whenever anyone mentions it here.
Hope tillyboo remembered her brolly... it's been grim today. It will still be grim tomorrow, but then they say it will clear up for the weekend.

Hi
We went to Lanzarote in October last year and hardly spent anything, for 3 of us. We bought quite a bit of food in the local supermarkets, so had breakfast and lunch at the apartment and evening meals in the local restaurants.
We didn't stay in one of the resorts though, we went to Calleta de Famara, as the beach is great for surfing, so we rented two apartments from the company we booked the surf tution from.
Elle1971, I envy you living in Lanzarote, it's a lovely island with very friendly locals.
We are going back to Lanzarote again this year in October for 2 weeks and we can't wait :j . We'll be able to see more the island this year, which will be nice.

Yes, we're very proud of our Island Floster. Famara is my favourite beach - closely followed by Papagayo.

Naturist, please! And if it is, it's not the only one!Signature removed for peace of mind0

I typed out a reply to you... and then my PC crashed - grrrr!
Anyway... here's some info for you.
Jaspar's Bar is at the San Antonio end of the strip... and the best place for cooked brekkies, and roast dinners if you can't bear to be without them whilst on your hols. Say hi to Sue - she's very friendly.
Spenders Bar is the cheapest place if you want drinks in the afternoon. The owner John is a Geordie, and great fun... as are Steve and Natalie. I don't know Natali so well - but the fellas are both cracking men. Give them a pinch from me!
If you are in the Old Town - then an absolute must is Emma's Cantina which is run by Mike and his Mexican wife Emma and is one of our favourite places. real Mexican food, cooked properly - not to be confused with the dozens of Lani's Tex Mex places, which aren't of the same quality. That link also shows his menus... so you can get those mouths watering.
In Matagorda is a little Italian place, underneath Chev's bar. I'm sorry I don't know of a web site for that.
The Waterpark at Costa Teguise is looking a little tired these days - but at least you're not doing it in the height of summer, so you should be ok. I'd definitely recommend a trip to Rancho Texas, which is on the outskirts of Carmen. You can book trips for that. I'd go to Last Minute Travel for that, as the markup isn't too bad. Last Minute will also do the Timanfaya mountain trip for you too - although again if you are hiring a car... then it's more of a bargain, plus you're not jostled on and off a coach. I can give you directions, if you need them - just yell.
Food shopping for self catering - hmmm... sore subject right now on the Island, as we feel that the resort supermarkets are ripping people off. There are a number of Nettos about. But if you are hiring a car, then I would recommend a trip up to "Ropers" which is close to the airport. From PdC... head to the airport, but don't take the airport slip road. keep going until the Playa Honda turn off. Go straight over the first roundabout... and turn left at the next one to take you under the bridge. At the roundabout the other side of the bridge, go straight over, and park up where you can. Ropers is on the main road. It's where loads of us locals go... and has loads of bargains. The fruit, veg, fish and meat here is excellent. Plus you can get all the usual bread etc too. I got a massive piece of lamb for Xmas dinner that cost €8. It did us 3 meals, and 3 lots of lamb sandwiches too. That's for 2 adults and a dog lol. Cracking! If you are planning on doing a fair amount of self catering - then do pay that place a visit. On the opposite side of the dual carriageway to Ropers is the Deiland, for shopping. There's a Hiperdino in there, which is certainly cheaper than the Nettos... but still pricier than Ropers.
There's a couple of tips for you now eh? Sorry... once I start typing about our Island, I can't stop and it turns into an essay - bit of a passion of mine.
Have a cracking time!
Elle xx
PS: lowonmoney - I'll post an essay for you as well in a couple of minutes xx
I'll second Jaspars & Spenders! :T (Elle, do you happen to post on the Lanza forum?
)
Jaspars food is Mmm Mmmmmm and resonably priced. They do a good range of food, especially good old English home cooking like back home!
Spenders is great, they are really really friendly there, me and OH were there in October, OH in his Man U top, boy what a ribbing did he get! :rotfl:
We budgeted £100 a day as we were self catering, some days we would blow that (especially the nights we were out drinking all night
) but some days we wouldn't even spend half of that.
Infact, we spent nowhere near what we took on food and drink, so we managed last minute to bring everyone home some perfume/aftershave (plus some for ourselves) along with heaps of presents for the kids because we had so much money left over!
Some places, the food is really cheap, but watch out for the drinks where a soft drink can cost heaps more than an alcoholic one.
We're going back out there this October, I can't wait!
Actually, have a look HERE where you should find anything else you might need to know.
Hope you have a fantastic holiday!!
