Daily budget for holiday in Lanzarote?

I found driving in Lanzarote really easy. We had the mini bus for 10 days and used it every day.. Theres a lovely little beach up the north of the island just above La Cueva de los Verdes.. Can't remember the name but well worth a visit. We done the volcano first thing in the morning which again was well worth it.. We drove straight in and parked right up at the top car park. When we came out the queue was all the way down to the main entrance and up the main road. We then came back down the road to the camels which worked out well as It seems most people go to the camels on the way up to the volcano's so by the time we got there most of the people where in the volcano queue..
The island is well worth exploring and when I go back next I will be exploring it again..
Playa Blanca is a lovely place to visit. Probably will be the next resort we'll stay at when we visit the island next. There are some fantastic beaches not far from Playa Blanca that you have to travel down a dirt track for miles to get to but worth it when you get there.
Lanzarote has so much to offer and so much to see. This is without doubt my favourite holiday destination.
Elle.. I can't remember the name of the hire company we used. I think they where Plus cars or something like that. Defiantly had plus in the name and they where green and white fronted offices and there was several of them along the front at PDC and a office at the Costa Mar centre.. They where by far the cheapest we got a quote from.. I think they where about 250 euro for 10 days and the mini bus (10 seater) was almost new..

This is a good little island guide..

HI Kenny - thanks for that. Yes, Plus Cars IS the one with the green/white logo. I'll pass that on. The little beach north of the green caves could be Orzola - just lovely! And the ones down the dirt track in Playa Blanca are called Papagayo - those and Famara are my favourite beaches here.
Do you know we still haven't done the Timanfaya tour! I know - it's shocking! The reason is that we save things like that for when friends and family come to stay, then it's new for us too. But they've all wanted to do Teguise Market, El Golfo etc instead so far.
Nice guide you posted. I've seen it before, and it's very good. I also like www.lanzaroteguidebook.com - the chap who writes it lives close to Arrieta, and like us has a real passion for the Island, which really comes across.

That is definitely a good plan!
Regards driving down sandy little lanes to get to beaches I am very wary however, my oh and I visited Fuerteventura a couple of years ago and tried that, we ended up nearly grounding the car as the lane was so bad (deep tyre tracks with a big bump in the middle) and we drove for an age and ended up turning around without ever getting to the beach - scary!!0 -
hi elle1971 we are ging to the flora apartments next week, i haven't been to lanzarote for years, what would you advise as to spending money? we dont do much, sunbath, a few beers in the day, evening meal etc. also can you get John Smiths, my hubby's favorite tipple! and can you recommend any tapas bars in puerto del carmen, many thanks.0

We didn't have any problems driving around the island, not a lot of traffic on the roads, but I remember our guidebook warned us that going 'off road' to get to beaches was a really bad idea and would invalidate the insurance.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Yes Sue - the route to Papagayo is a prime example - not that this seems to stop any hire car drivers over here anyway

Tillyboo - you're staying in great apartments there - they normally get cracking reviews. As you head down the hill from there, you reach a mini roundabout. Take the first exit, down a steep slope and you reach the harbour and the Old Town. There's loads of little gems down there. oodles of Irish bars, and right on the harbour edge is loads of restaurants where you can get your tapas. But also, as you go down that hill, take the last turn on your right, and follow the road around until you reach a zebra crossing. Just there is Emma's Cantina - probably my favourite Mexican Restaurant ever! Say hello to Mike in there from me, and tell him I'll be down soon. www.emmascantina.com is his website and they might have his menu on there. I know the updated menu is on my own website, but of course I can't post that here because of forum rules.
If you took the second exit of that original roundabout, and followed that hill down, you reach 2 bars on the right - Chadwicks and Bar Somewhere. One of those might do your hubby's fave tipple! But if not, then keep going until you get to the junction down the bottom. The complex you'll see immediately on your right has a few places to try. Or follow that road around, and there's a glut of cheapie Brit bars round there too. If you turned left at that junction, and walked about 200 yeards, you'll reach the Biosfera - oh hon... take your credit card... there's girlie shopping bargains galore there. Leave your fella in the Bus Stop cafe across the road... and have a good root around.
To get to the busiest area in PdC, you are best to take a cab from Flora, which should only cost 2 or 3 euros, and head to The Strip... which is where you'll find so so many bars that should hopefully sell John Smiths. If they don't sell it, they'll know who will.
Money to spend? Eek - toughie that one! Beers will be around the €3 mark... so multiply that by how many you're likely to drink. Most soft drinks will be around €2. Your meal should be about €35 for a starter, main course and a couple of drinks. Obviously this will vary where you go, but that's a fair average.
If you're going to be out all day long, and want a great beach, cheap hearty grub, and REALLY cheap beer... then get a cab to Playa Los Pocillos. The cab will probably be 4 or 5 euros... but it's a fantastic beach. There's a commercial centre right opposite... and you'll see massive yellow signs for large beer = €1.50 - and their other drinks are really cheap too. They've got a massive terrace, and pool table etc. Michelle and Tony are really nice. he's Welsh, and she's from Southampton. Again, say hi from me. I was in there with them last night for a cuppa and a chat... which is when they told me about their slashed prices. yes, it's the opposite end of Carmen to you... but worth it if you're out for the duration.
Oh dear - I've written another essay haven't I? I really should get off this computer. I just get so pleased to see more people coming to Lanzarote!
Have a cracking time!

PS: A taxi will probably cost around €15 from the airport to that end of PdC - each way.I'm not easily distracted, I just... ... ... oh my god it's a puppy!!0 -

Sorry! Not on this board, anyway ... and we don't really tell people off, do we?
And see, I can switch it off when I'm being me rather than a Board Guide, but I just have to remember to do so! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Elle thank you so much for that info, one last thing what is the weather like? Conflicting reports on the websites I am using, is it winter coat, rainmac or a cardy!!0

If you let me know which resort you'll be staying in... I might be able to help with some hints and tips for you.

Hi there Elle
Several years back we went to a time-share hard sell at a place in costa-teguise. (Ocean Club or Yacht Club or swomething like that?)
We didn't buy but it turned out to be a big scam run by gangsters who did the Brinks Matt gold bullion robbery in Heathrow. They conned loads of poor people out of a lot of retirement money as far as I recall. If you stay there I thought you might be able to tell me the outcome? If you heard about it?
Edit. I think I've just answered my own question. I've been googling around and found this
http://www.lbcma.org/
Boy were we lucky to avoid this scam. Lanzarote Beach Club it was and the law suits are still going around. Looks like the scam keeps changing and people keep getting hooked. Thousands have lost fortunes I'm afraid. Beware. Looks like the guy is now nicknamed "Deleted_User"
We got a free week's accommodation (with 1 day hard sell thrown in)and more importantly a huge lesson in avoiding a bear trap. We stayed in the rundown BeachClub accommodation but they tried to sell us into the planned new BeachClub II adjacent ground which they didn't even own. BEWARE0 -
Tillyboo - today is aboslutely gorgeous! Not a cloud in the sky... and it's about 23 degrees. There's some nasty weather on it's way apparently... but hopefully it'll be all finished by the time you arrive.
Hi there Oxters. I don't know the specifics, but it sounds like the "Lanzarote Beach Club" debacle. www.lbcma.org might have more info for you. If it IS the one you mean... then it's certainly been a sore point with people here, as you would expect.
Have a good weekend guys!
