Hi Bigdi. Yes, the debt is quite big, around £20K, although this amount includes interest and charges, so the settlement figure is much lower. I am paying this creditor via the CCCS but its way short of what they want. What you have to remember is that the Stat demand is a warning shot from the creditor. It costs next to nothing and I see on one website that over 90% of debtors settle following the serving of a Stat Demand. In other words, it doesn't even get to the next stage, the issuing of a Stat petition, when they take you to court. So why am I settling? Mainly due to the fact that a family member has offered to help and, to be honest, the settlement figure is very low and actually works to my advantage in the long run. Hope this helps. By the way, stat notices are quite rare I hear. Its just I have a relatively high income and I think I'm an easy target. Fair enough.0

Hello everyone
Just dropping in quikcly to say have a nice (quiet?) Easter everybody. my Dmp is due to start on 1 May so phone calls haven't started yet,as paymens currently up to date, but I hope the Bank Holiday weekend provides some respite for some of you- although am I being niave in thinking that debt collectors don't work on Bank Hols - yes, probably!
Also just want to have a little moan about OH. Today is the day we start our budget in readiness for DMP. I have cash from salary drawn from new b/a and OH had haircut booked. I was busy so off he went and then I realised he hadn;t taken any money to pay for it, so now he will either have to use cc or dc on LLoyds (massively o/d) account! What a great start - bl**dy men!
Also wonder if anyone can help with this? I am applying for a job with Reed Recuritment Consultancy and they want to do a credit check:eek: . They say are just looking for CCJ's (which i don't have any) but they do ask "if you know of any reason you might fail a credit check?" Well, I know i will fail a credit check FOR CREDIT but not sure as to what info they will see? Does anyone know what they will be able to see - is it more of a generic thing? We credit checked clients at my last firm if their bill was going to be more than £1,000 but apprently that was just to check for ccj's b/r etc and did'n't give you their full financial history -i'm hoping this is the same?0 -
Hi Overspendingidiot. This link to the Payplan site might help, rather than me going into writing a version of 'War and Peace!!'.

You're in good company here..and welcome.0 -
Hi Loopylu, never heard of prospective employers asking for a credit check to be honest. Don't they realise we haven't committed a crime, we just owe money due to over committment. I just wish I had been turned down for credit years ago. Sorry, but I feel that some of the CC companies have to take their share of the blame. Hope everything turns out ok, sorry I can't help you. As for OH, take the cards away from him! I feel so big and proud when I open my purse and I only have a debit card from my one and only account, which has money in (since I stared my DMP). I no longer worry when I go to the till to pay as I know I won't be embarrassed as I have been on a number of occassions over the last few years borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. That's my rant over!0

Thanks Bigdi
I know financial institutions do credit checks on new employees, but who would want to work for one of them?1 :rotfl:
Totally agree about the lenders too - our bank is LLoyds and they gave us a £5.5k overdraft, two loans of £25k (one each) one loan of £10k, and two cc's (one each) each with a limit of £15K! Can you beleive it?. Thankfully we only(?!) now have the o/d, one cc, and owe about 14 on each loan (10k one paid off) but how on earth is this responsible lending? Ok, we didn't have to take the money and we were stupid that we did, but how was it even responsible to offer it to us? We wouldn't be in half so much debt if people had stopped giving it to us ages ago. Yes, it would have caused us problems at the time, but only in as much as we would have ended up on DMP long before now and be much further down the road to being DF!0 -
Has anyone had dealings with HSBC and Goldfish? They are hanging back on accepting the offers from PP but haven't refused them either!0

Morning guys,
Well, I'm loving the Easter hols - woo hoo! I'm just up and feel so self-indulgent
Good point loopylu about responsible lending. I definitely wouldn't be in this situation if banks etc had actually stopped and thought before giving me the opportunity to rack up this debt. That and the fact that I swapped a high earning career which would have meant no probs paying it all to not earning for a year whilst training to be a teacher. Oh well, worse things happen at sea!
Can't remember who mentioned Natwest, but to put your mind at ease, they said the same thing to me (2 accounts) and the past them to collections agency fairly quickly. I accepted that I would be charged interest etc for the first couple of months until everything was sorted out and was pleasantly surprised. I've heard MBNA can be a bit of a handful, so sock it to 'em!
Not sure about the credit check question.... I've often thought the same when I've looked at renting a new flatMaybe someone on the main DFW board would know?
I wouldn't be surprised if some of us got calls from the not-so-religious creditors this weekend, so please don't get frustrated if they do. I remember someone on here ages ago gave me a wonderful tip of repeating a phrase like
"I have the right to refuse to communicate with you over the telephone, please correspond via letter only" over and over again, never answering any of their questions until they evetually hung up - it worked a treat - and became quite funny in the end!! The other thing I used to bring up was how could I be sure that they weren't some kind of fraudsters, as they were asking for my personal banking details for their data protection check, yet I had no proof of who they were! I used to refuse to divulge anything (good as they are not allowed to discuss issues without DP checks) and ask for a number to contact them instead once I'd verified it. Then you just "forget" to call
A big cheery hello to Overspendingidiot - great name!! You're very welcome here, ask away!
Maz - I'm impressed by your determination, good on you for doing a self-DMP. Keep us up to date on how it goes.

Had a few letters off EGG as I had two Credit cards and a loan off them saying that they have defaulted me,the thing is when I set up my DMP with CCCS online I only put in the loan as the two credit cards where both under £400 and so the minimum payments where under a tenner each and I was managing to pay them all right.
But when I talked to CCCS they said I should put it in with my DMP as I owed the creditor(EGG) money already and they could play hard to get if they knew I could pay extra for these two credit cards,I`m paying them a £5 each under the plan, but for the sake of an extra £5 I`m going to have Two more defaults on my Credit file.
I`m starting to wonder if going the solo route wouldn`t have been better as I could then target the debts I want to get rid of quicker unlike the DMP I`m in now which seems `Set in stone.`"Life is short even in its longest days".0 -
Hi everyone, my first post as a newbie to MSE forum. Could I get a number for this thread please?
I started a DMP with CCCS Jan 06 owing 75000. I've heard nothing since from most creditors. I have 3 accounts with HFC, loan cc and storecard and these have been hell throughout. They served 2 CCJ's on me last summer and I've just had a charging order attempt in the mail this week. Nationwide/KPR were snotty after a few months in but nothing heard since. HBOS have passed me to a debt collection agency since Jan and they are now threatening another CCJ as the payments are unacceptable.
Have to say CCCS on the whole have been very good. Often have trouble phoning but I have used e-mail a lot for non-urgent stuff and they've replied usually by next day.
I'm so glad I found this thread as its given me quite a lot of hope.0
