USB help please

Are you plugging it into a USB port on the front of your computer? I know some USB's port on the front of PC's are not powered, and can cause problems with devices that need more than an unpowered USB port can provide. Those on the back of your computer should be a better bet as they are connected directly to the motherboard and so draw their power directly - front USB ports are often little more than a hub.
The other thing to consider is the drive lettering - have you got a drive already named G: ? For some reason the Shuffle I have defaults to that, and if there is already a drive with that drive letter it won't appear in the My Computer drive list.

Hi yes i have tried it on the back ones too with no luck.
I have a G drive yes and a H I and J for some reason?Darren0 -
Sorry for bumping this but i was wondering if anyone knew an answer to another question. As i said i'm running Vista premium but nearly always when i turn the PC off and put it to 'sleep' it keeps turning itself back on.There's no one near it or moving the mouse to make it come on.Anyone any ideas as to why it keeps turning itself back on?
Thanks
Only thing I can think of would do this is Wake On Lan feature. Try disabling this in your BIOS.
Maybe update your drivers for your motherboard, hopefully it can iron out any USB issues. Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help

with vista as I have found out ...when you plug something in it usually comes up with "finding drivers" does it do this...you'll have to put the drivers on for it to work...doesn't matter what software you have it wont work without the drivers...with my bluetooth this is always going south but I just click on the link it comes with and download the latest driver...I would go to the ipod shuffle website and download the latest drivers for vista...:D
also very worrying when you say there is nothing there when you click on "computer"...

Click Start
Right-click Computer
Click Manage
Answer yes (or allow) to any warnings that come up.
Click Disk Management in the left pane?
Does the shuffle show up in there? If so, try changing the drive letter. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

Yeah that's the problem. It did work the first time.I plugged it in and it came up like it should do but the problem was it couldn't find a compatable driver and then brings up a site?
Of course i couldn't get it working then and since then i found a site that might help but since then also every time i plug it in it doesn't come up any longer:(Darren0 -

Thanks.I can't see it anywhere there is nothing saying shuffle?
In the top box there is F drive where i have a game mounted the C drive and the D recovery drive but there is also another one that doesn't have anything next to it or any letter.
At the bottom it says disk one two etc etc and Cd ROM 1 2 etc etcDarren0 -
It may not say shufle, especially if the pc doesn't recognise it. Is there anything in the list that wasn't there before, or that disappears when you unplug the shuffle? The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

Nope nothing is there or goes when i plug and unplug it.Darren0

Hmmm...
I'm gonna have a rummage on t'interweb and see if I can find either some inspiration or a driver.
In the meantime, do other devices work properly in that USB port?
Does the shuffle play OK?
Can you see any unknown devices in Device Manager? The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.
