You can usually get big drums (think they're 2 1/2 ltr) of vinegar at Chinese or Indian wholesalers, we get one for £2.50 and it lasts ages.
ETA: I checked and it's a 5ltr drum for £2.35!The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -

Hi,
Apologies for what seems a stoopid question!
I ahve read much on here about using vinegar in your wahing machine instead of fabric softener and I would like to understand the mechanics of this.
Is is simply a case of putting the vinegar (which type of vinegar?) into the drawer with the detergent instead of the fabric conditioner? If not how/when should I be doing it?
Many thanks :beer:Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
Yes i just put the powder in the powder compartment and pour vinegar in the fabric softner compartment.
Shove it in and forget it

Sorry to start yet another post on this
but I just can't bring myself to do this!
I try to follow all the advice on this forum (which has been an absolute godsend and saved me a fortune - I also plan to start the PIN challenge next month) but this one thing I'm resistant to.
I always buy ASDA's own Fabric Conditioner at 2 for £1 so don't think I pay through the nose for it. If I WAS going to do it, would ASDA's own white distilled vinegar at 46p be the way to go? How much do you use?
I think what is really putting me off is worrying my clothes will smell like a chippy after!
Can anyone convince me?
Just a thought - do you need fabric softener at all? lots of folk on here do without it - and dont really notice much of a difference.

I used vinegar for a while but found we then got a static problem so I went back to softener until I get my next bottle of vinegar.
Perhaps I'm not putting enough in0 -
Must confess I tried putting vinegar in the softener drawer to make my towels less scratchy and the machine smelled for a couple of days afterwards. Maybe I spilt a bit I am wobbly these days.
No drastic difference in the towels but it might take a few washes to get rid of any limescale build up in them.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20
