Trying to transfer out of A&L into Abbey. A&L account number is 11 digits but Abbey will only allow me to type in a 10 digit mumber. Each company says to contact the other. Total rubbish!
  • Hi there. I could really do with some advice. I already have two ISA's (from previous years) and I am looking for the right ISA to open for this year’s allowance and also, to transfer my previous ISA's into. I can find ISA providers with reasonable interest rates but they seem to have large transfer out policies (180 days loss of interest!). Does this 180 day policy only apply during the first 12 months of the ISA's lifetime or is this for the entire lifetime of the policy? Are there any other products that anybody can recommend?

    Many Thanks,

    Russ.

Russ, can't answer your 180 question (not that I would deposit money into an account with that sort of restriction anyway) but have you read the cash ISA article?

    Hi,

Yes, I did see the article and my problem was that the best payer (Barclays) doesn't allow transfer in's. HSBC also didn't allow transfer in's which only left Icesave. This actually does look like it would be a suitable account given the requirements I mentioned but I have two problems. The first, it isn't guaranteed by the FSCS which in the current climate, scares me a little. Secondly, I have had an Icesave savings account with them for two years and it has been problematic since day one. What do others here on this forum think of the Icesave ISA? Am I worrying for nothing regarding the FSCS? Are there any alternatives?

    Many Thanks,

    Russ.

    Russ,
The next best thing looks to be http://www.principality.co.uk/default.aspx?page=607. I have one myself.

However, they will only let you transfer in if you subscribe with them for this year, which but the sounds of it is what you want to do anyway.

    Cheers

Has anyone made any transfers to the Principality recently? Good or bad experience?

In particular, I have existing ISAs with Skipton and the Hanley.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ben,

Yes, this does indeed look like an ideal isa given my requirements. I also saw one with Abbey that on the face of it, looks very similar. What do you make of it?

    Cheers,

    Russ.

I think I read some bad things about their customer service somewhere. Also read nothing but good things about the Principality's customer service. Do a search.
Plus being welsh, choosing the Principality was a no brainer!

I can actually confirm the bad customer service with my experience of Abbey. Six months and about 30 phone calls to set up a bank account and even then, they only transfered my wages from my existing account. This meant bills were coming out of my old account but new money wasn't going in! Would rather not touch them ever again to be honest.

I guess we have ourselves a winner then! Thanks Ben!

Hi, I have previous years cash ISA's with two different providers and have starting paying into a cash ISA for the current tax year, I would like to transfer previous years to a different provider (higher interest) and continue with current year's provider - is this possible?
