    Hmm...

How do all those Polish people manage to get jobs more or less as soon as they step off the bus then?

because they do the jobs for minimum pay that 'Mr dole' cannot be bothered to do.

I don't know if anyone remembers this but about a year or so back there was a programme on TV where a reporter took 3 teenage lads that were living on the 'dole' to try and see if they could get work. These lads had not worked since leaving school, I beleive they were aged between 18 and 21.

One ended up working as an apprentice at the BMW Factory, one ended up working in a juice bar type place in a shopping centre and was soon promoted, the other didn't turn up to the job he was offered.

The reporter went to see him and asked he he had not gone into work and the HIS NAN (who he lived with) turned and said he was not getting out of bed for the minimum wage as he was worth more than that!! I was stunned to be honest. But that is why the Polish have the jobs as everyone thinks they can go out to work a 35 hours week and earn £20 an hour!! People think it beneath them to work for minumum wage these days am afriad. When I was 18 I was earning £3.33 an hour - and that was a GOOD wage as far as I was concerned and I liked earning it as it was mine and I could do with it what I wanted.

they should definately cap benefits so that if you have more kids you don;t get more money for them. Oh, and every seller on eBay that does more than 20 transactions a week should be registered with the Tax Man as most of the people who are doing it are getting extra cash this way!!

Dont councils have to re-house people if their "Homeless"?, so i they throw them out, they will then have to re-home them anyway?

No actually, they don't. What they have to do is take a homeless application and provide temporary accommodation whilst the application is being investigated. And this will depend on whether or not they have priority - ie: dependant children under the age of 16, someone who is disabled etc. No priority, no homeless application.

Single blokes, over the age of 18 with no dependant children and no disabilities - go buy a tent now.

After the application has been investigated, a decision will be made. If they are accepted, they will go on the list and have to wait for suitable accommodation to become available.

If they are not accepted, because they are judged to be intentionally homeless, they will be given a set amount of time to find their own accommodation. game over, do not pass go, do not collect a council house.

Councils also cannot give tenancies to those under the age of 18.

For what it's worth, (I've said it before, so I'll say it again) - make it known that council houses will NOT be available to those under the age of 21, regardless of how many children they have. This will cut the teenage preganncy rate overnight.

If I were Prime Minister I would also:
    • stop selling off council houses under RTB. I'm sick of seeing people who buy their council house, then sell it and expect to be given another one.
    • Allow councils to build more properties. The fact of the matter is that, despite earning £28K+, I can't afford a mortgage and so have to privately rent. How on earth people can be expected to get on the property ladder when they need a mortgage that is 4/5/6 times their salary is beyond me.
By all means, start turfing people out of council houses if they don't have a job. This will no doubt increase the turnover of properties, meaning that anyone on the council waiitng list for accommodation will stand half a chance of eventually getting somewhere inside 8 years.

  • Why don't you just come up with some kind of test that can ascertain which social class you are in and simply cull all those who are not middle class ?

Then you would be left with purely the hard working, affluent people in the country.

!!!!!! - will you lot listen to yourselves ? Yes people claiming dole constantly takes the P but they are still human beings.

Can no-one come up with more pro-active humane ways of encouraging people into work ?
It's not paranoia if they really are after you.

My SIL handed back keys on place in 93 (but they could have afforded to keep it with more effort; I can judge , I know her)
Got LA flat (nice one too)
    Bought under RTB.
OH caught her in bed with bloke nxt door and they sold flat; making £15k.
OH left and used £££ to buy house for himself.
Council gave her brand new large 3 bed house (the affordable part of the devt) + gdn + drive.
Got caught out with neighbours bloke so did exch for flat in Bermondsey for a wadge of £££. Sold keys to that flat for more cash.
Went back to OH to try reconciliation.
1 yr on, left him again
Got another council house 3 bed (but not so nice) few yrs back. HOW????

Me and OH rent privately and would dearly love a council or housing association house, just for the security. Since moving in with OH we have lived in 4 properties – the first move was our choice, the next two – the first landlady decided to sell, 2nd was a bit sad, the landlord died he was a vicar and his widow needed the house for herself, so the one we are in now we love, but started on a 6 month AST, now on a rolling lease so no security. We did apply to local council/housing association when having to move from the property before but it was like we both work, no children living with us on a permanent basis although we do have OH’s daughter nearly every weekend. In the past in our separate lives we did both own houses. But circumstances change and at our age (both in early 50’s) realistically we cannot afford to get back onto the property ladder. I actually do not understand how people manage to get council houses and benefits, at one point 2 yrs ago my OH was signed off sick and only getting SSP,(he was off for 8 months while they kept deciding if they would operate or not!) I was unemployed at the time as since moving from the south to be with my partner I had worked as a temp for agencies and the work had dried up, and getting jobseekers allowance, we applied for housing/council tax benefit, during the time it took for them to assess our application I got a job(didn’t like the job and still don’t, but hey it pays the bills lol) Needless to say when the cheque for £12.15 as a first and final payment was received I didn’t know if I should frame it or cash it! And also needless to say when OH went back to work and was made redundant within the month we didn’t even bother to try and claim again, luckily he got a job within 2 days. We have both worked since leaving school many many moons ago and we are not looking for any handouts, just hoping that one day the place we call home will be our home till we decide to leave!

They should be FORCED to move every three months, so they can't get too comfortable. Some of these scroungers live in the same place for years without lifting a finger to find a job !!!

I'm sorry but what an ill conceived post this is.

So you are saying that if I (and my family) were to be in a council provided house that we should be made to move every 3 months!

It is exactly that kind of idea that would cause literacy and numeracy rates in this country to plummet and the class divide to widen simply because it would mean that my children would have to be uprooted from their school to be moved across town and into another school 2-4 times a year! and then what happens during GCSE times? everyone would suffer as a result, not just the family in question. This country would be filled with iliterate yobs who CANT work because they cant read simply because of a half a$$ed policy.

  • my earnings +wtc + ctc puts me over the limit for benefits.
    ;)
hahah mmm arent WTC and CTC benefits??
Doesnt WTC destroy the "its not worth working" argument?? I used to get WTC and was a) bloody grateful b) Bloody surprised!
Of course more money given out on benefits is spent on cigs/booze/gambling than on food.
And the moon is made of green cheese .. opinion, not fact. :p

I dont hear people arguing that those who benefit from the middle class benefits should give them back?
(Eerr I dont know what they are.. private schools child benefit MIRAS PENSION possibly)

    ANd its so different now...

so many fonts and so little time

BTW whats DH (I presume SIL is either sister in law or son in law )
    and MEW ??

  • I appriciate you quoting me but please next time take itr in context.

literacy rates arent great and one way to improve them would be for children to be in a stable enviornment as much as is possible meaning NOT being moved from house to house every few months and uprooted from their schools. This would make numerous situations a heck of a lot worse than they are now.

I actualy find this thread hilarious. So many generaliations. and so little compassion

    .

Makes me wonder how these "hardworking" illiterates who have been fortunate enough to never be unemployed for any substantial length of time ever got a job in the first place.

Or keep them for that matter, seeing as many have spouted their near nazi ideas duing normal working hours.
