I'm not a great cook, so I'm probably doing something wrong, but the mash never seems to defrost properly for me. So I normally just bag up the fish pie filing and then make mash each time. Fish pie is such a faff, I usually make 12 portions at a time.0 -
Have never had a problem with mash topped pies and freezing (I used to make tons of shepherds pie etc when I lived on my own and froze them individually cos it wasn't worth making a single portion of mash)
My mash isn't particularly creamy-I just use butter and some milk, but it tastes fine once defrosted. MMM mash0 -
I'm for freezing the complete thing as well. To cook from frozen, do it in the oven at gas 5 for about half an hour, that will make sure it is piping hot.0

I save tubs from take-aways or ready meals, they are brilliant for one and two portions.0

I managed to get 2 loaves for a pound yesterday which i'll use for sandwiches in the packed lunches, ive frozen one loaf. How long does a slice of bread take to defrost and do they dry out or go soggy?
can you freeze crossiants and muffins? and do they defrost ok?I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD0 -
About 5 minutes on the side if you leave out a single slice. I tend to pop in the toaster on the defrost setting, takes about 20 seconds to warm through. We have found that they aren't quite so soft/springy as a fresh slice, but not sure if it's an issue with our freezing method (bag up 4 slices per sandwich bag) or not.
Haven't done it myself but know others have frozen croissants and muffins no problem0 -
We just throw the whole loaf in the freezer and take out a slice or so at a time. It's much better toasted as if left in the open air it can dry out. It should defrost OK in a bag but will never be like fresh - however good for toasted sandwiches, cheese on toast etc.
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
I have cleared out my fridge and its my own fault for not keeping track but I've got 300ml of whipping out of date tomorrow, 325g of singapore noodles out of date today and 4 slices of sandwich meat (roast beef) out tomorrow - can any be freezed?I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You can freeze the cream if you whip it first. I freeze near to use by dates cold meat all the time but make sure you package it in the amount you will use at one time ie 2 slices together. Otherwise it is impossible to seperate without defrosting. Sorry but I cannot advise on noodles but hopefully someone else will be along shortly who has more knowledge than me!0
