  • Thanks nesssie. I didn't know that soup would keep so long so that's good to know. I have frozen soup and stew in the past but it's a small freezer so not very useful and things take about 2 days to defrost!
I'm not very sure about reheating times - tend to nuke things till absolutely piping. Also will soup made with hm chicken stock last 2 or 3 days in the fridge or is it asking for bother and better to use a stock cube?
  • Anyone please help with the following?

I have made several portions of chicken dhal curry for OH and will be putting into freezer tonight. (trying to be money saving and all of that!)

When I'm ready to use it, I'm going to defrost in fridge overnight and then reheat on hob. The question is... How long should I reheat it for?

Sorry, I'm veggie myself and have tended to have always cooked from fresh, so don't know too much about reheating meat. Wouldn't like to poison anyone!!

    Thanks in advance x

I would reheat it to boiling point and keep it at boiling point, stirring it, for 4 or 5 minutes. You may have to add a little extra liquid to stop it from sticking.

(I'm a bit paranoid about this!)

As long as you re heat it till its piping hot, it will be perfectly safe. I tend to put that sort of thing in a heat-proof dish, cover with foil and then pop in the oven at about 190 for 30-35 mins.
Sanity is the playground of the unimaginative!

That all depends on how much you have, how quickly you heat it, how cold it is, etc etc. Make sure it's piping hot all the way through before you eat it.

I'll add this to the existing thread on reheating to keep ideas together ;)

  • I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere re. freezing, am very sorry but cant find it!

I have just made a large lasagne, but want to freeze it. Is it okay to do so? And how do I go about reheating it? Do I have to let it thaw out first? Sorry but I am kinda new to all this, so any help greatly appreciated.

Also, if we are going to eat some of the lasagne for dinner tomorrow, would it be okay to keep some of it in the fridge then reheat tomorrow?

    Thanks :D

It's fine to freeze it. Best to take it out and defrost 24 hours in advance of using it, although if it is in small portions you may get away with cooking from frozen (although you'll need to cover it or the top may burn).

It's fine to keep the one you use today in the fridge for a couple of days. Make sure it is covered and it won't come to any harm... you don't want to be eating the same thing every day!
  • Hi there is no problem re-heating the lasange tomorrow. Put in oven 160o for about 30 min. Could be re-heated in microwave. Defrost before re-heating if you decide to freeze.

    Hi Happymumof3,

Lasagne freezes very well. If I am freezing a whole lasagne I don't usually cook it but just layer it up, freeze uncooked and cook once in the oven once it's defrosted. If I'm freezing leftover cooked lasagne I freeze it in portions and reheat in the microwave until it's piping hot.

The lasange you want to eat tomorrow will be fine if it's chilled fairly quickly after cooking and kept covered in the fridge.

There's an earlier thread with lots more ideas that may help:

Lasagne - freezing and defrosting questions

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the replies together.

  • Hi everyone,

Thanks very much for your replies!!! Will put some in the fridge for tomorrow (tonights one is only for my 3 year old as he wont eat the chicken roast we are having lol!), and will freeze any remaining.

Thanks also for the tip about preparing and freezing without actually cooking too, that will definately come in handy for the future :)
