  • Don't know if this'll help or just confuse the matter more, but ... This is taken from Precision Marketing.co.uk:

"Egg also refutes suggestions of a data blunder, following reports that customers with perfect credit ratings have been dropped.

However, in a statement the bank concedes that its data model is not foolproof. The statement reads, “We stand by our decision, but will review any complaints against our risk model to ensure that the criteria for selection were properly applied in all cases. If we find any customers have been included in error then we will reinstate their card and apologise for our error.”

The company also faces the threat of a Office of Fair Trading inquiry if only one of its 161,000 customers makes a complaint."

So, does anyone feel they have been "included in error" and/or feel the need to make a complaint?

I haven't got the letter and regularly spend over £1,000 a month on the card (The full amount always gets paid off by DD).

Has the dealer said they will accept payment by cerdit card? (or dod you mean SBT?).
A lot of card dealers don't like it becasue of the card fee.

They accept payment by credit card but they pass on the fee (of 1.15% of payment price, which works out about £55) to me.

This is the first time I have ever posted anything like this online - so please be gentle!

I received the letter on Saturday from EGG which referred to my EGG Money Account. But I have also got an EGG Credit Card, and as far as I can make out EGG are more than happy to let me keep spending on a card that is charging me 21.9% interest, but not on the card that was at 16.9%
I did have some issues last year and crept over my limit a few times - usually only 10 -20 pounds, but I imagine that soon as you are over, the actual amount is irrelevant as the damage is done. But I also had problems with my other card. I suppose we will not get to the bottom of it, but one thing is for sure - I'm going to pay my debts off asap!!

Further to my earlier posting - today I received another letter saying the same thing was happening to my Egg Card. Maybe they would save a few quid themselves, not to mention paper, if they had included both cards on the same letter. Surely can't be rocket science to work that out.

Also was told in todays letter that as the card was already restricted etc - well this was news to me and I used it a couple days ago and wasn't told it had been restricted. Sounds like they are making it up as they go along.....

Come to think, this is not the first time Ive been shafted by a CC company. Just noticed Cahoot have upped my CC APR from 11.8% to a whopping 19.9%

Gotta feel sorry for these poor banks, cant be making enough money.....

  • Just a hunch but how many of us have cancelled the payment protection scheme i know i did and ive had my card cancelled.

I voted "have smaller debts (sub £1,500) but always make at least the min. re-payment".

In actual fact it's a bit more complex - when I took out the Egg Money card (my first CC) aged 19, I was somewhat more disorganised and didn't manage my money all that well. I paid late on occasion (some of which was due to an error from my bank on payment dates) and also went over the limit (but never by more than a few pounds).

In the last 12+ months, though, I've been much more organised. I've made min. payments on time to Egg and on all other bills/credit arrangements.

At the point when I received the letter, I'd just paid off about £200 from the card, leaving my balance at just over £200.

I've just been accepted for an A&L account with a 0% overdraft (to transfer my current expensive o/draft into!) so my credit can't be as bad as Egg seem to think. My total debt isn't high (in the grand scheme of things) as you'll see from my sig, and I'm working hard to reduce that too.

Who knows what went on in their minds! I think I shall take my business somewhere it is valued instead :)

Does anyone have any idea how to go about making an OFT complaint? I don't know if they have broken any actual rules - sorry, I'm not up to scratch on all the fine print - but I feel frustrated by the rude and unhelpful stance they have taken over this.

Hey Vikkers, yes that's a very good point - I've never had it as my limit has only ever been £500 with them (I only ever used it for spends e.g. food shopping and train tkts and stuff) and didn't see the point paying for it - could this be what they mean by risk?

  • Yes I've also had the letter
Not at all happy - I've never missed a payment with Egg and now are worried about getting a bad credit rating!
