Now they are closing my account, I've got nothing to lose by reclaiming charges from them. I used to sometimes go overlimit but always pay on time, and they had no problem increasing the limit or giving me a loan (which has never had a late payment either). I'm now paying the card off, more than the minimum payment, and suddenly my interest rate goes up (twice)and now the card is being cancelled!

I wonder what can be done - it seems that all the cards they are caneclling they are also upping the interest to 24% which is proposterous
  • Come on Martin .... Show us poor noobs the way :) can we get the % decreased as we no longer have a credit card?
  • I too have had my card cancelled. I used it regularly, Sometimes did balance transfers, but then always paid off my balance, never went over my limit. Recently I haven't used it because when in the USA last summer I used it to take $20 cash out for train ticket. I always pay my balance off but I was then charged interest for this withdrawl not just the following month but for three months after that! It wasn't much, but it bugged me. So I complained to Egg who explained that the best thing to do was not use the card for a couple of months and let the account completely clear. So I did this - and now I'm told I'm not wanted (because I complained or because I don't use the card enough?). It's a shame because I actually liked Egg, they were always helpful and I bought into the quirky image their brand offered.
  • What amazes me about Egg is that, despite their recent culling of cardholders, I applied for an Egg card yesterday (for BT reasons) and within LITERALLY 1 min I had been approved for a card with a limit of £11,600!!!!

I am self employed, and could have easily plucked the figures I entered out of thin air (I didn't, by the way).

Why would they get rid of "tried and tested" customers but then take on an entirely new risk and give me such a huge limit? I don't even have any other credit cards (the BT is being done from a card of my husband's).

Also, do you think I should get the limit reduced because I don't intend to spend on this card and the BT is only for £6k. I'm thinking it'll leave me less open to fraudsters (and also my own temptation!!).
  • To my utter amazement, I have discovered that my Egg Card account has been closed. Not even the courtesy of a letter, by the way - I had to phone up to ask them where my replacement card was, as the old one had just expired, so the news came as something of a shock. The Egg Card has been my main credit card for several years, and has been well-used (annual cash-back around £50). I have however always paid off my balance in full each month, and I have enjoyed an unblemished credit record overall for over thirty years now (never a single problem apart from a very occasional late credit card payment as the result of an oversight). So as far as I am concerned, Egg's decision to close my account has nothing whatsoever to do with the credit risk - it's quite simply the fact that as a customer, I'm not profitable enough for them. It stinks! Sign the e-petition on the government's website, if you agree!
  • I have just got off the phone to egg this morning. I asked if I could move my balance over to my loan, they said no as this is not a service they are offering. How come when i talked to them before all this they were forever offering to move it ......... God I wish I had then :(

I really can't see why I should be paying Credit card rates when I no longer have a credit card ........ Can You?
