  • You know, i hate companies that do this. Lloyds TSB refused to give me a SAVINGS account due to having went overdrawn in the last six months.

As a result (and due to the charges) I shifted my daughters CTF and ISA out of the TSB. combined they have nearly £8000 in them at the moment and growing by around £2500 a year.

My current account, my partners current account we are currently moving.

Home contents cancelled. Im willing to pay a few pounds more for a service from a company that wont refuse me a service based upon silly rules. They wouldn't let me save with them (shoddy rate anyway, now awaiting my icici account details) so i take any money they earn from me away.

My experience isn't included in the above but I have a perfect credit rating, with no missed payments on my file.

I applied for an egg card via quidco, one of a number of via quidco applications I made.

    Computer said NO

All the other CC applications I made were successful

Oh, and I have an egg internet savings account.

My husband was rejected by MBNA approx a year ago saying pretty much the same thing. He did the credit check and there was absolutely nothing wrong with his credit history. He challenged them but got nowhere (didn't make any great effort to pursue it though!)

I suspect it's just a standard letter and the reason for the rejection was simply they didn't think they'd make enough money from us!

Yes, I realise why they did it, however my point was I did not request the card be reinstated. It seems they did this on their own. They replied to my nice nasty message and assured me I will not get any negative marks on my credit score as a result of their unauthorised credit search though. Ho hum.
  • I have also received THE letter and emailed them complaining as I was furious and got a general response back.

    BUT:

Let's try and remember that the people we speak to or email at EGG are also people who have bills to pay, mortgages and yes, probably debts as well and are probably dreading each work shift as all they'll get are irate callers and most likely verbal abuse.

I don't work for Egg before you all leap on me but I have worked for a bank and being front line is very unpleasant at times! Those people at the top won't give a rats !!!! at what the people at the bottom are facing so the best we can all do and anyone who can afford to - vote with our feet, pay off more IF we are able and go.

If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
    I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome! :p
  • Like several others in this thread, today I receved a letter from Barclaycard, dated 7 Feb, stating they are reducing my credit limit on 11 Feb (2 working days' notice, which had passed by the time I received the letter). They have also stopped any cash withdrawals and "we are not prepared to reverse our decision" - yes, quote from the letter.

It then goes on to tell me to keep my spending within my revised limit, make payments on time and avoid making only the minimum repayment.

Yet I've been making only the minimum repayment (on time, by DD) for over two years. Why? Because everything on my card is on a 6.9% APR life of balance, so the more expensive debt is being cleared first!

Yet Barclaycard are crazy. Now I can't use the card (credit limit slashed to 5% more than the balance, which I'll need to leave for interest etc). If I had used the card, it would have attracted interest at the usual 17.9% (which they can increase if they want to, unlike the 6.9% that is fixed) any payments would have reduced the 6.9% balance first.

Still, I feel I'm being mistreated. If I had used the card these last few days for some emergency, come Monday, I'd be over my credit limit and *BANG* overlimit charge, credit file tainted etc.

Speaking of credit files: the letter specifically states, "We have taken this decision using financial informatioin provided by credit reference agencies as well as informaiton held by Barclays." Are they allowed to do a search without my consent? I agreed to the INITIAL search when I applied several years ago, but I wasn't aware they could search again without my expressed consent. Not least, since searches themselves are recorded and lenders treat an excess number of searches with caution.
  • I asked egg about that and they assured me that it is a slightly different search which doesnt show up like a search for credit does - how true that is I dont know
  • Not bothered about cancelling card but am a bit annoyed that they upped my interest rate this month as well. If they don`t want my business (my savings account -(£4000 +) will be moved) they should have made it easier for me to pay it off , not harder. Profitteering, yes i think so !!
  • I got the letter. Checked my credit score which is Excellent. Wrote a Thank You For Your Letter email to Egg and pointed this out. I transferred a balance from elsewhere at 0% and always pay extra each month to clear it, although the 0% recently ended, so they've done me a favour in prompting me to move the debt to another 0% card. Egg's reply included the phrase that they had considered my "card usage activity". In other words, no profit for them.
  • I had a problem with an Egg loan 2 years ago, so they stopped my Egg card which is fair enough, as I ripped it up any way and since then I have been paying off more than the min amount each month through D.Debit. But half of the amount paid goes on their interest charge. have rang them to ask for help, they want to spend at least 45 mins talking to me about my situation, to discuss this.
I have had the letter yesterday which closed the account SURELY cannot something be done for those that have had the account closed, to get a reduced interest rate on what we all owe. CAN MARTIN GET SOMETHING GOING ON THIS?
  • Just logged onto my Egg Card Account to read that I have had my card withdrawn too.

I have a large balance on the card, but have always made payments on time by DD, however there has been occasions when I've gone over the credit limit and incurred a fee.

Now I have nothing to lose with Egg, should I apply to reclaim the charges after all what can Egg do, close my account!!

I would appreciate your thoughts, just in case I would suffer with other lenders if I make a claim with Egg.

    Thanks
  • I didn't know any of this was going on as I have been away from my computer for a few days and haven't had a letter yet. I did email them yesterday and ask them to increase my credit limit to about double and they refused. I was somewhat put out (limit is currently £3500) and wrote and asked why but didn't get an explanation. I have both egg and egg money but only use egg money (just to get the cash back). I also have egg savings( to transfer money through egg money (again as it generates cash back),an egg ISA and use money manager...I'll probably get a letter as I always pay it off in full each month and cost them £200 each year in cash back and have never paid a penny interest. BTW I have never had payment protection but am over 50 with a reasonably high guaranteed income....I'm not sure about my credit rating but I apply for credit cards on a regular basis for stoozing. In the last month I have got American Express( for the 5% cash back) ,and Virgin and Barclaycard which I have used for stoozing......I'm not at all sure what my profile is but I will wait and see if I get a letter
