  • Got letter loday so angry. Funny how until Christmas, they increased credit limit without my agreement, yet no longer good enough. Been a customer for over three years with one recent glitch which clearly goes for nothing.
Went over amount once by £20 and cleared it within days, making them more money....but yet clearly not making them enough money.
I am also confused by their letter as the say they are ending my agreement, but further in their letter they state the Egg card agreement continues to apply.

    Can't say I'm shocked.
I owe £2360, but pay over the min payment by dd every month.
I've gone overlimit twice in the entire time I've had the card (7 years) and only by a few quid.
Like others have said, at least now I can't spend on the card.

I was initially worried they'd demand full repayment within 35 days.

Does being one of the cancelled customers affect your credit elsewhere?
  • I paid my egg card off in full about three months ago - and have since had a nil balance. On Friday i received closure notice on my card.

Should I be worried that my credit rating has been damaged?
  • I've had my card cancelled with a balance of £347...never missed a payment and pay more than the minimum! Now worried about my loan with them!!!!!!! Does anyone know....can they suddenly cancel this as well...never missed apayment on it either!!!!!!
    Will never use Egg again!

I received my goodbye letter today.
I took this card out 6 years ago when I was a student and have never used it for purchases, only balance transfers. I paid on time every month, many times paying more than the min amount and I have never gone over my credit limit.
I currently have £1,300 at 0% which was a balance transfer I did in Oct. If I'd known they were going to ditch me in 2008 I'd have gone elsewhere. I was going to go to them for a savings account but they can whistle for it now!
  • What's going on with egg and their interest rate.... it seems to be different for everyone.... I'm now on 19.9%...!!!! .......
I get the feelling that they put it up in anticipation that they were going to cancel my card... now I'm snookered in to paying the excessive charges cos I probaly won't get a new card to cover the balance outstanding....

I'm read my letter ......as they has cancelled their agreement with me to provide a credit card facility and in my mind they have have cancelled that account therefore shouldn't be able to collect interest at such an excessive level. They could demand all the money back in one lump sum, but as they know they would never get anyone to pay up in full, they'd have to got through small claims for everyone and then have to settle for a regular interest free payment........

Just re-read my letter which starts....

We are ending your Egg card agreement - account number xxxxxxxxxxxxx

    further down reads.....
we are giving you formal notice that your agreement will end in 35 days

    then it reads...
The Egg card agreement continues to apply untill the the balance is repaid in full

either the agreement has ended or continues.....cant have it both ways surely

.....that wording seems bizarre. Got any lawyer friends? ;)

I think this seems to be the problem everywhere - no-one can understand how they can contradict themselves like that and like hell am I allowing them to charge me 20% for a glorified loan! Cant Martin help us?
  • It's just annoying that's all.
  • Hi all, my OH has just had the letter, he's furious!! had the card for 8 years, never gone over the limit, paid more than minimum payment every month by DD. Also he recently paid for Egg car insurance with his egg card and booked a travelodge room for a weekend in summer on it last week! He'll have to try and change the card for the room coz they don't apply the charge until you book in. He also has an Egg loan which he has never missed and an excellent credit score!
How dare they say he is a high risk???!!!!!
Also I agree with the other posters.. are they closing the account or not?? if the account is closed they can't continue to charge interest on the remaining balance. I hope some legal eagle can pick holes in that bit???
Citibank aren't doing EGG reputation any good at all ...
    doing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j
