I agree - if you are to destroy the cards then you are never going to be able to use this account again therefore by logical deduction the account is closed.
But I'll bet Egg will disagree with you. See my post about Section 20 of the T&C's.

......no, the account can't possibly be closed as there is a balance on it. They are taking away your ability to spend further on it, suspending your spending (!!) but it definitely aint closed.

I don't have an Egg card, but I do hope that this helps as many of you as possible. If as many as possible were to find a better card, we'd have as many as possible in a winning situation. Remarkable that they are still advertising on TV for new customers in light of this.

EDIT: In fact, I'd love to read stories of people who have parodied Egg's letter and sent it back to them with quotes such as "Much like I'm someone Egg doesn't want to lend to anymore, Egg is a company I don't want to pay anymore!!! My balance transfer to a lower rate card is done, and I now pay interest to ACME cards instead. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your business".

    Pompous Eggy gits.
  • Got my letter yesterday,i was amazed it came in such an in-formal envelope,i actually thought it was a junk letter until i opened it.

They have actually done me a favour as now i know whenever i pay money off the card it's paid and i can't re-spend it so thanks egg.

  • It is interesting the view the poll results. Seems quite mixed results.

I did not get a cancellation later, have a 4k credit limit, and never use the card. I did a few years ago for interest free balance transfer. Since then I only use it for the Egg Money Manager. Maybe they are keeping me on board because they want to see what other financial institutions I have accounts with...

Never say never, but I doubt anyone would do anything on anywhere near this scale as things stand now. Banks on the whole love debtor customers, especially banks who sell mortgages, unlike Citi.

Chuckle you sound like just the sort of user they'd want rid of. It almost seems random

Probably as I don't make them very much money as I always pay things on time but ended up with debt due to medical bills amongst other things but never missed a payment and never gone over my limit.

  • On receiving my letter from Egg telling me very kindly to cut my Credit Card Up, and that after 7 years with them they are cancelling the agreement.
So I called customer service only to be told that all that they no is wots in the letter..... Ye pull the other one...
  • I got one letter on Friday saying that they were cancelling my Egg card, I didn't give this too much thought as I had paid off the entire balance last year.
But then got another letter saying that they are doing exactly the same with my Egg Money card. Currently has about £2000 on it, which I pay over the minimum payment each month.
If I was such a bad risk why did they increase my credit limit recently without me asking them to.
Not great customer service if you ask me.
I'm just gutted that I've still got a loan with them otherwise I would not touch them with a barge pole!!!!
  • Tried to log onto egg today, not available, rang them up to check if I had any subscriptions on the card, system not available, please call back.
