If you are going overseas, your JSA will be suspended until you return. They should allow you to change your signing day, although you will not be able to stipulate what day it will be.

Yep, that is fine. When you next go to sign on take the phone number and address of your relative, so you can be contacted whilst you are away.

if you are going to Wales you can sign on down there, as for the voluntary work - tell them and they willchange your day

What you also need to remember is that there's 2 different types of JSA. 1 - contribution based, 2 - income based. So if you're on the 1st one, yes you could afford theoretically to pay for your holiday because you're not on benefits but claiming because you'd paid enough cojntributions through employment to allow you to do that until you found another job. With the 2nd, it's self explanatory. If you're relying on benefits to live then the chances are you can't afford to pay for your holiday and you possibly haven't enough contributions paid form previous employment.

Could I suggest that anybody needing help on holidays whilst claiming benefits starts a new thread? This one is very jumbled!

The argument that says if you are on JSA how can you afford to go on holiday is a really silly one because...

you could have a few hundred or thousands in savings or redundancy payments OR

your "holiday" might just be paying a cheap train fare and staying free with a relative or friend OR

someone else could be paying for your holiday OR

you might have won the holiday in a competition!

Not everyone on JSA is scraping by on the breadline and friendless!
