Changes To StayWarm

We've just got the same.
I still think I'll chuck them as a 5% reduction during the summer months when consumption is reduced is not much of a saving.0 -
Has anybody ever tried regularly switching out of Staywarm at this time of year (as the central heating is turned off) and back into Staywarm in Oct/Nov (when it goes back on again) and doing this year after year. Do they apply any sanction to people doing this (only using them for the heaviest consumption months) ?0

I had my letter from Staywarm today.
5% reduction from now, further 10% when contract is renewed in September.
One of the bullet points stresses "no unexpected bills, use as much gas and electricity as you need".
No mention of banding via usage.
I'll await September.............Watch out for the sandbag.0 -
Yes, that's what I was referring to :-
"no unexpected bills, use as much gas and electricity as you need".
so many MSE'ers have in the past say that Staywarm do not allow this. But when it's in the proverbial black & white, how can they introduce change. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
They never (to my knowledge) actually mention having bandings in writing, though they have over the phone.
However, heavier users get told, "If your energy use continues to be high, we may substantially raise your Staywarm price at your next renewal".
That's not an 'unexpected bill', of course, because they've warned you they'll do it ;-)
The days of a fixed, low price based purely on numbers of bedrooms and occupiers are long gone. Having said that, I got my letter yesterday and, after playing with the price comparison sites, have decided the saving I would make isn't worth the switch, so I'll carry out the same exercise again next year.0 -
Our household has been on StayWarm for many years but we have just been told, that they intend to increase their price to us from £89 to £170 per month!!! I must check again with my mother to see if this is accurate because it sure is unbelieveable.
We have a three bedroom semi with only myself and my retired mother aged 68 living in it. We use electric for everything apart from the Gas central heating for the radiators and hot water, although we have an electric 9kW shower. Heating is only on approx 6mths a year and not particularly high either. My only vice is having my computer on for approx 14hrs a day with the LCD screen off the majority of that time, plus my network server is 24/7 but that consumes a mere 12W, not much more than a 7W night light.
We no longer use appliances like tumble driers or dishwashers and don't use every ring on the kitchen hob etc. We try not to leave anything on standby and turn off lights whenever possible, although our Freeview TV recorder is on 24/7 so it can update itself etc. We could use more energy efficient bulbs but my mother hates the look of them. However we do use at least one for the outdoor light.
Anyway the time has come to switch before they suck us dry of money and force us to move quicker than we planned....
Anyone have any recommendations for comanies to switch to, i.e. the ones that are fine to deal with and cause the least hassle?
Thanks. :-)0 -
I would give them a phone and check that it isnt a mistake.Just yesterday I phoned to find out what my weekly payment should now be after the 5% reduction.I told the girl that i was paying £17.63 per week and after she did some calculations came back and said my payment would be £7.05p per week.So I said are you sure because that is a very big drop and she replied no thats what you pay now.Not being happy with her I then phoned again and got the true figure of £16.75 which of course I had already checked and knew.So give it a try and you never know that could be case with you also.I,m in a 3apt terrace with storage heaters and also in scottish region which is 2nd dearest in uk so cant see how their asking you for that amount0

Just double checked the prices and it seems my mother was wrong. The actual price per month will be £117.65 from next month, nearly £30 per month increase!!! This still seems too high.
Our Consumption Summary for the previous twelve months says 7634 kwh (Electric) and 25370 kwh (Gas).
I live in West Yorkshire by the way, pretty much central UK and in recent years is warm all year round, give or take the occasional cold day and some years are wet but mostly dry now. I'd love to visit Scotland someday as the family originate from there.0 -

I've not been with Staywarm long, only a few months, so it's not an anniversary. I was wondering whether to change supplier since the advantage of a fixed cost is lost if other suppliers are reducing prices. Today I got the notification of my new DD which will be 5% less than before.
I may check the others but the Staywarm quote I accepted was one I was very happy with.0
