  • Hi everybody,

I seem to have got myself a little diary going on here :D

So here goes .... since being 'let down' by the family member when he promised to lend me x amount, then sent me a cheque for less and wouldn't have any discussion with me about it ..... I have borrowed the full amount I need from someone else and have put the original cheque on my dressing table mirror. Everytime I look at it it reminds me that I'm heading for a place where I can rely on myself financially ..... that feels good. Everytime I feel the need to 'borrow', be it from an institution or anyone else, I'll remember how let down I felt here and rely on myself :j ......

So I'm driving up north tonight .... and for the first time since it opened I won't be paying the £4.50 each way on the M6 Toll ..... that is gonna be a major temptation though ....

Got to do a boot sale in the next few weeks, over riding feeling though is that I can't be bothered. Am I being lazy, or do I derive a certain comfort from being surrounded by 'stuff' .... what am I gonna do when it's gone? I spend so much time clearing and 'tidying out' stuff ..... or more to the point, just moving it around the house !!!! Truth is hard eh ?

Hope you're all dealing with your money practicalities well ..... but for me, and more importantly, you're all getting to grips with your money emotions.

  • Guys ... someone at work just said that going through the Toll road may be cheaper if I have to use more petrol being stuck on the normal M6 .... what do you reckon???

Hi Needcash - just checking in briefly tonight as very tired and heading for early night. I don't know about petrol versus toll charges - how much petrol can you get for £9? I don't have a car, so I don't know really.
I just wanted to say - about the car boot dilemma - that it is well known that changes of any kind take their toll on our emotional reserves - and maybe your inner wisdom is warning you that you are attempting too much at once? Or maybe that's my toddler making good excuses for not giving stuff up :rotfl:what do you think?!
I am having to start packing up to move house at the moment, whilst not knowing for definite yet whether or not I have a place to move to - as well as changing bank accounts, transferring credit card balances and facing more debt accumulation in the process of moving home - - - - in print it looks like just admin - but I can tell you I am FEELING emotionally and physically wrecked - like I could sleep for a week!
Not sure what you are going north for - is family up that way? But go easy on yourself (without using money to be kind to yourself).
    See you soon x

  • Hi Bountiful ... how are you doing? How is/ was your move going? Feeling a little less drained? Have you got somewhere sorted to move to now?

As for my boot sale - is definitely the toddler in me not wanting to give up stuff - I think that deep down I derive a certain level of comfort from being surrounded by stuff :(

Was up north visiting family ... I paid the toll going there as I went after work and I wanted to get up there as quick as I could, but coming back i resisted and it was fine, didn't get stuck once :j ... I'd gotten in a bit of a habit of using the Toll road .... another habit bites the dust :j.... so what with that coupled with the cheaper petrol I bought up there, I'm feeling very proud of myself :D

I do hope that your move all goes smoothly and that it isn't too stressful.

    Speak soon

  • Hiya! Glad your trip went well. I am still waiting to hear about flat........fingers crossed, totally! Still feeling pretty drained - but had a supportive conversation with a friend (who is also doing a part-time degree like me) and we are going to get together, at my place, on Saturday and have coffee and just share our angst and try to see how we can get more space for ourselves in our lives.
I bought a second-hand sweater today - Monsoon - £4.50 in a charity shop.....and had an ice-cream because the sun came out for a bit!
Had to go to page 7 this evening to find your thread!
    Lots of love xxx

  • Hiya,
You sound really upbeat! I do hope that the flat comes through for you x

I'm feeling dejected today ..... I have a plan to pay off my debt, but I've been looking for 'quick fixes' and I can't find any decent ones ..... my journey to being debt free is smoother and quicker than a lot of people on here, but I am a bit 'fed up' today at the prospect of it taking me about 2 years to clear my debt (car loan and mortgage not included) .... and the whole world seems to be planning ways in which to spend money aaarrrrggghhhh ..... sorry to moan and be negative .... fighting the urge to shop to cheer myself up !

Sounds like you have some really nice and supportive friends around you .... keep up the good work :D xxxxx

  • Hiya Needcash - if you get a chance to read my thread you'll see that I had a post when I felt, like, what's the point? and someone (Seaxwyn I think) posted a lovely reply saying that the dfw journey is up and down - par for the course etc. Go read it if you need a boost - remember we are financial toddlers - this is like being in the baby-bouncer thing - up and down, up and down - feeling like we are getting nowhere fast.

One emotional tool I find helps is that I keep a written journal (Artists Way?) every morning - and when I get a bit stuck with negativity I do what I call "three happy things" - so at the end of the day I write "three happy things" that happened. It can be small, like the sun shining on me when I was waiting for the bus; having an early night with a cuppa and a library book; making a lovely curry out of bits and pieces in fridge.

I have got the flat. Haven't signed the contract or come up with any way to pay it yet, but I have the flat!

I feel I could sleep for a week - I am going to sit and watch a DVD this evening. Shift work takes it out of me too...... poor me! At least I have a job - I am grateful for that.

Hey Bountiful, big congrats on the flat, I'm so pleased for you. I do like your ways of maintaining positive thinking, I do believe that whatever way you think sets your direction in life, like a little internal compass. I'm sure that all the positive steps that you're making and the positive thoughts that you are having with help to make sure that things work out x
I'm feeling good today ..... received a dozen red roses when I got home ... I'm a sucker for flowers :D .... Made sure I recompensed in 'kind' .... well they do say that the best things in life are free :p .... Have also made a few budgetary 'tweaks' and the pay off debt plan looks good .... feeling positive, positive, positive ..... :j

I did try to find your thread, but I came across this one first. Will look again a bit later .... suppose I'd better do a bit now to keep earning those pennies. Have a good day/ weekend.

  • Oooh red roses - how romantic.......
I forgot about Valentine's Day altogether until I went into the baker's and saw the Valentine's goodies - bought a heart-shaped biscuit for my son
Yeah, thanks, flat is GOOD NEWS - not as nice a place as I am in now, but a good location and will save me time and money by being closer to work etc. There are some challenges - getting the money together in time, a very spooky internal kitchen which feels like a catacomb - and no heating...... oh and no cooker or anything.... and a bit damp - but hey, I'm lucky to have a place.
Can't believe it's already the weekend again! Doing anything nice?
