Well not quite, organic actually means that synthetic pesticides and fertilizers hasn't been used. IMO there is a lot myths surrounding GM crops, because organic food is not 100% free. And there is not a shred of evidence to suggest that GM is harmful. And GM food has saved millions of lives, by developing grains which produce high yields in drier conditions.

I know what organic means, and yes there may be differences depending on which association/body is certifing the food as organic or not. Even so, whether totally or partially free from 'nasty' stuff, organic still means it's not as loaded with harmful chemicals as the non-organic alternatives.

Finally, with respect to GM food and whether it is harmful or not, I try to get informed before expressing my opinion. This website below is a good starting point:

http://www.gmwatch.org/

but just in case you don't feel like reading that much, a couple of short quotes taken directly from that website:

"All policymakers must be vigilant to the possibility of research data being manipulated by corporate bodies and of scientific colleagues being seduced by the material charms of industry. Trust is no defence against an aggressively deceptive corporate sector.
The Lancet"

"We strongly object that the image of the poor and hungry from our countries is being used by giant multinational corporations to push a technology that is neither safe, environmentally friendly nor economically beneficial... Delegates from 20 African Countries to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN meeting on Plant Genetic Resources"

Enough said this time, I hope. Ta ra! :D

Thanks for the post on the cheap chicken. :D I buy what I can afford. Sometimes that means free-range and organic chicken, sometimes that means caged chickens and on bad months, sometimes I can't buy any chicken at all! At the end of the day, I'm grateful to the OP for this thread, it's helped me save a bob or two towards that BMW (I wish)!

All the discussions about free-range/organic/battery chickens are not appropriate on this thread and on this board. This is a 'Grabbit While You Can board' - surely the discussions would be more appropriate in the Moneysavers Arms...

Agree fully!:T

I'll be heading into Mr Tesco tomorrow for my monthly shop and I'll be getting not one but probably 2 of these chickens. I can make one of these chickens make 5 meals quite successfully and to be honest I dont have a problem doing it.

I have a low income, I dont have a plasma, I dont smoke or any other generalisations that have been made about people on low incomes, and yes I do have a conscience! I take offence to whoever stated we where animals and should have more sympathy for these chickens. In MY OPINION (as your entitled to yours) I am a human created in the image of God, not an animal

People need to wise up and stop this idle talk, just because you have an opinion doesnt mean you have to share it!

See you in DT

Absolutely spot on! Just because someone posts a bargain which you deem contentious or morally wrong...we don't need you to wheel out the soap box and start your sermon!

If you don't like a bargain....move on!

Thanks to the op!

Thanks OP. I shall be putting some on my Tesco order for in the freezer, it's a great price.

A tee-total, non-plasma/lcd owning, non-driving (ergo no car at all!), hasn't had a foreign holiday in 17 years (although this is through choice), non-band-wagon-jumping Polly :D

Have you noticed that people who post merely to mock others' grammar or spelling often make mistakes themselves? It's really not worth the trouble.
Can I help?

hard pushed to live somewhere that wasn't near a farm shop?! - I live in London along with 8million other people - i promise you there really aren't that many farms or farmers around here!? is there a website where i can search these things?

Christ on a bike, you're either lazy or stupid (I suspect both! )

"Is there a website I can search these things? "
Yup ... round here we have access to a website called GOOGLE. And if I use the website called GOOGLE, and enter the search string "farmers market london" - guess what comes up ?

Just to make it real simple, so simple even you can find it, I'll include a simple to use link ... I assume you know how to click on links ?
