Hi, I usually shop at Tesco's (or Asda) and use money off coupons, but with the time & petrol involved against the fact sometimes I can only use one or 2 vouchers. i am thinking of using online codes & shopping online, does it work out cheaper? quicker?
Sorry but am new to this and would like some help/opinions on this one.
I have been well chuffed since I discovered Tesco's & Asda will take Coupons, it has saved me a fortune, and kept me in budget.

People will always find a way to share the voucher codes.
Unless Tesco make them unique for each customer this will go on.
It wouldn't be difficult for them to generate unique codes to send out to each customer, I'm surprised they don't already do it.
The same way you might buy a gift voucher for amazon.co.uk - that code is unique and can not be used more than once, yet 1000's are generated for use every single day.
It would be a shame if the day comes where the codes can not be shared, I know that many people count on these for extra points, people with mobility problems, undependable incomes.. the savings do make a difference and in some cases mean families can take their kids on holiday etc when otherwise there would be no chance.
I have personally received many emails stating this.
However I appreciate the positon from a business pouint of view, if it's got to a stage where a large number of people are using codes each time they shop, the margin must be affected.
Tesco have 1000 home shopping vans that run pretty much flat out, the business needs to be cost effective, if customers are waiting to use large discount codes like £15 off £75 or 1000 points on a £50 spend then that's 20% of the profits gone.
I'd like to perhaps see Tesco issue smaller discounts that can be issued to everyone and larger unique discounts offered to new customers and regular shoppers.
My apartment building is actually on top of a Sainsburys, yet I continue to shop online at Tesco and only because of the savings I can make, should these cease I will no longer be a Tesco customer.
I'd expect most of those that online shop are somewhat internet savvy and a good percentage of those regulary use discount codes, I'd expect a large drop in numbers should they no longer be able to do that.
The example in my case being, I live above a Sainsburys... why now order from Tesco when I can pop downstairs and pick the produce myself.
I've not heard anything regarding my site as yet but I guess I'll have to make some changes (when contacted) to fit in with the T&C's which will ultimately lead to less codes available to those that need/use them (or worse no codes at all)
I have noticed a significant increase in traffic to my site today which I imagine to result from the removal of the codes thread, there are plenty of other sites with codes advertised and I wonder if they have also been contacted?
If this subject is no longer appropriate to discuss here I'm more than happy to discuss opinions with others on MSN or email.

you've inadvertantly hit the nail on the head, having these codes with MOV limits actually INCREASES their margins as people may buy a few extra items to push up the bill, as well as the more obvious fact that it is £75 tesco otherwise wouldn't have had if people had shopped at their competitors (for instance if you popped downstairs instead of ordered) A lot of less savvy people probably dont use the codes, so their lesser knowledge pays for the vans as they have to go out and about anyway. All in all tesco are still making a mint, if the codes werent having a positive effect on their business they would stop issuing them altogether! Long may the codes live on!0

Tesco's net operating margin is 6% with a profit margin of 5%
Even if customers are boosting their shops to meet the minimum spends 20% is still a huge discount.
I agree that Tesco could stop people using the codes anytime they want, however I'd expect a competitor (Asda?) to jump in and then start offering large codes to attract those leaving Tesco.
That along with the bad PR it may cause could prevent the codes from being made unique.
I'd be very surpirsed if the delivery costs we pay actually cover the expenses from home delivery.
Say a van makes 25 deliveries per day at an average cost of £5.00
That's £125 to cover the daily costs of:
Wages for the Van Driver
All Van costs:
Fuel
Initial Cost
Insurance
Maintenance
Tax

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if / how I can add codes after I've placed a groceries order please?
Cheers, Wilf.Keep smiling!0 -
Wilf : You can't seem to add more codes once you've been through checkout... as far as I can see, you can only enter codes the first time you place an order and before you checkout, so add codes next time you place an order.
I suppose you could place a 'dummy' order just to get the codes into your voucher basket and then cancel it if you didn't want that order. Next time you alter your existing order the highest value voucher would probably go into your basket.
Hope that makes sense!0 -

i have just received my points online for a shop, and it is the 1000 points ( e voucher)less than should be. I called Tesco and they stated will be added just before the next lot of points are sent out , Do you think i am i likey to get these added ?
No - from past experience, ring them up again and ask for them to be added and send you a statement so you can see that they have done it!!0 -

I agree. I always have my delivery on Tueday or Wednesday when it is £3.99 and could not imagine this covers the cost of the shopper/in store staff and delivery, especially as we are quite rural here. Even with economies of scale I think it unlikely. I often have a delivery and see the van back again in the next time slot across the road and we live about 8 miles from the store. (Did think about sharing the delivery cost with the neighbour but then who would get the extra points?!)0 -

They are tighteneing up and on to us0
