One of my favourite quotes:-
"Women underestimate, sometimes by a matter of weeks, how long a pair of socks can be worn."

Towels & sheets I only have white, so the towels need to be changed daily, but I have 6 of each. 6 jumbos, 6 head, 6 fannels.
I HATE with a vengence coloured towels, I think people who don't change their towels often enough use coloured towels to hide the dirt.
White towels you can see if they are dirty.

 white towels will not show dirt if you have washed properly doh !!!!
As for using coloured ones....why not ?? i use both kinds ...towels get changed every 3rd day ,not cos they are dirty or smelly but cos i LIKE the smell and feel of fresh towels
Towels get dirty through use, no matter how well you have washed!!!
If that were the case then towel would never need changing as we only use them after washing:rolleyes:
As for coloured towels, they just make me think of smelly towels you don't want to dry your hands on after using the loo in someones house.
White towels look fresh & pristine.0 -
my towels are coffee and cream I wash once a month on a boil wash as we shower mostly everyday...so the towels don't get dirty...infact they don't look dirty...but I wash them anyway as it's a once amonth thing...:D
See thats what I mean about people who choose coloured towels:D
You wash them once a month whether they need it or not:rotfl:0 -
Undies and socks get changed every day, but every other item of clothing I wear for 2 days before they get washed (although after reading the responses on here I am wearing my clothes today for the third day running and it's not all that bad you know!).
Towels and bed sheets I aim to wash once a week but is difficult at moment as we've moved house and have no space to plumb washing machine in, so my mum's doing all my washing (bless her!)Trust me - I'm a scientist!!!

Something obvious has been missed here. Its not just how often you wash, but how you wash.
We are a family of 3 and I do about 3 or 4 loads a week. But I nearly always wash it 30 deg C on a quickwash cycle and never use the tumble dryer. Modern washing powders/liquids are designed to work at 30 or 40 (I know because in the past I worked for a company who made the stuff) so why do some people still insist on washing everything at higher than that, (obviously sometimes for hygene reasons it is, but you don't have to wash everything at that). It doesn't get your clothes any cleaner. If something is stained I use a stain remover on it first and it still comes out clean at 30. Added to which a lot of clothes these days don't like being washed at higher than 40.
BTW, I wash clothes when I think they need it, if they are a bit grubby after one wear they get washed if they are still fine after several wears they get worn again. (Though undies and socks get one wear only, especially my daughters socks, becuase they reek!!:rotfl: )0 -
I also wear uniform for work, so my own clothes that I change into in the evenings are only on for a few hours, so tshirts can be worn for usually 3 days after work. Jeans can easily last a fortnight. Clean underwear each day, except bras, which last 2-3 days in winter, but usually get changed each day in the summer.
As for towels, once a week, simple. We each have our own bath towel to use after bath/showers, and there's hand towels beside the sink so that gets rid of the face/bum problem.
I must confess to being intrigued about these people who wash their children's school uniforms every day. Its not that long since I was at school, and we used to have a clean shirt each day, but jumpers and trousers lasted a week, probably because my mam's rule was that as soon as we got home we got changed - no playing outside in school uniform. We usually had 2 sets of school jumpers and trousers, so if I spilled my dinner down my jumper I did have a spare I could wear the next day. My brother regularly came home with mud on his trousers (as all boys do) but small stains were simply sponged out and trousers hung up to dry before being put on the next day. I still do this now with my work trousers - instead of throwing them in the wash for the sake of one small mark, I'll try and sponge it off first! Is this wrong somehow?? Of course this could all change - work are threatening to put us in white/cream uniforms when we're next due a change, and won't accept we'll need more uniform if this is the case - you try lifting a wheelchair off the van without getting your white uniform marked!OS weight loss challenge: 4.5/6 lbs0 -
I am quite shocked and dismayed at how little the majority on this thread care little or nothing for the environmental impact of all this washing!! Washing clothes after one wear?? Ridiculous! All that water wasted, the energy to heat it, and the detergents harmful to the environment.
I do about 2 washes a week for me and a kid, I do the "sniff" test if there are no obvious stains.
I wash myself every day.
Give a thought to the environment before chucking clean clothes in the washer for Goodness Sake.0 -
I voted that I wear things 4 times which is true if I can wear jeans 4 times without spilling anything on them!
I've been really good at only buying clothes from charity shops and saving lots of money but now I've got 4 items of clothing whihc are dry clean only! D'oh!No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20
