For me it's all about "pits & bits". I wash myself everyday and anything that's touched the aforementioned "pits & bits" gets washed after one wear so that includes underwear (including socks) and t-shirt style tops that touch the "pits". Trousers and jumpers have a barrier between them and the "pits & bits" so only get washed after about 3 wears. To me this is logical and I cannot believe that people are washing things that cannot conceivably be described as dirty......
    But perhaps it's just me.....!?!
It probably is just me *sigh*

Hi everyone, I wear trousers, jeans and skirts twice before they are washed. I should relax a little bit more and wear them three times, like most voters.

I'm interested in how often ladies wash bras?
I wear my bra's twice before they are washed. However, I only wear knickers and socks once.

Ok I admit it compared to other MSs I'm a dirty piggy! :naughty:
I only wash jeans/pants/skirts when they have a visible stain / have gone all baggy / wiff
I wear tops once or twice (I sniff the pitts before putting on)
socks n nickers are changed AM and PM but bras it whenever I realise they haven't been washed - probs every 2 weeks but I have a few!
towels get washed at least once a week usually wash 2 lots (lots not loads) of towels each week (I have a germ phobia about things that may go near ur botty) I don't share towels with ANYONE!
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

No, that makes sense. I'm more or less the same. I'm kind of scared to admit to not showering everyday. :o I shower every second day as my hair goes all to pot if it's washed everyday. Wearing a showercap is not an option - hair goes kinky! I do have a proper top and tail on my inbetween days though. I'd never get dressed if I hadn't washed myself first.

I wash towels everyday. If I lived alone i'd probably hang them and reuse them. But there are 5 people living in my house and the thought of me drying my hands or face on a towel that somebody's wiped their bum on - no thanks! I suppose I could get hooks in everybody's bedroom. There's an idea! Why didn't I think of that already?
  • Now I feel like a bit of a nutter!!

There are 4 of us here fulltime me, DH, DS1 (5yrs) and DS2 (1yr) and stepdaughter (8yrs) occasionally.

I am washing and ironing all the time and it drives me nuts.

Bras, knickers/underpants and socks are changed daily DS1 also wears a clean pair for bed.

DS1 wears uniform for school I can occasionally save the jumper but the rest is washed daily he changes into clean clothes when he gets home and these are also chucked in the wash each day I ask that he wears his p.j's for 2 nights.

Baby wears his p.j's each night and clean clothes every day and will be changed whenever he needs it.

I make bottom clothes last every other day if I can but tops must be changed every day.

I am always telling DH he is a scruff because he can wear his top stuff for up to 5 days unless he spills stuff on it. Bottoms he will wear for up to 14 days.

Step daughter stays with us quite regularly these days and I do the same with her as DS1 and wash and iron her stuff before sending it home with her to her mum wouldn't dream of sending dirty stuff back.

Towels are washed after every use because as someone else said I aint putting my face where someone elses butt has been.

Beds are stripped and washed weekly and the dogs bed is washed once a month.

DH and I bath every other day and wash the bits and bobs every day kids ae bathed 3x weekly and the dog is groomed 1 every other month.

Feel fairly sheepish now but have confessed my sins and have had my eyes opened but I don't think I will change anytime soon

I'm with Miss Bez, criteria are whether it touches a potentially niffy bit. Towels I wash once a week and each of us has our own colour so we don't use the wrong one cos i agree, sharing towels is GROSS. NB Tea towels after one use, dishcloths go in every white wash and I do a lot compared to most people here - every night a wash goes on Economy 7 and perhaps another 3 washes a week during the day. Bras ideally once but as mine are handwash I can't often be bothered to wash them that often so more like twice. Other undies once ALWAYS. But what REALLY annoys me is my kids' habit of 'tidying' up their rooms by throwing all clothes, whether dirty or not, in their washing bins! I throw them in their drawer unless they actually look dirty. And also I reckon 5 mins max in the tumble dryer saves you ironing most things.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a 'proper' top and tail as opposed to an improper one?!

Er..I don't know. As opposed to a lick and a promise maybe? :D It's just what we say round here. Every morning I tell my daughter - face, oxters(pits), front bum, then back, in that order - then teeth lol
  • Hi Guys, first post so thought I would have my say on this, as an ex-army man I was always taught a basic training keep "pits and bits" clean change underwear and socks daily, now this makes sense to me as after all its is the sweatiest part of the body so hence the bacteria can multiply quicker.

As for trousers, and jeans well work trousers to look presentable probably once every 2 weeks I think is fine, jeans I believe should be wash far less often, I got some interesting quotes and info off the web and stuff I've read in magazines including GQ so if they say its all right that fine by me!

Lee jeans say: The best care you can give your Lee Jeans is to wear them. The more you wear them the more beautiful and personal they will become. The day will come though when you have to wash your Lee Jeans. Then just look for the washing instructions that are found just inside the waistband of your jeans. To keep the right look of your Lee jeans, turn them inside-out, use small amounts of washing detergent with no bleach. Wash at 40 degrees. Let them hang to dry and do not tumble dry. Most Lee jeans are pre-shrunk but some of the dry wash denims and colours will shrink a little. Again, check with the care label inside your jeans and follow the instructions carefully. If after washing your Lee jeans have shrunk too much for your liking, you can always stretch out the length or waist whilst the jeans are still damp.

Now to me I think they're telling us don't wash them unless you have to.

Simon King founder of London jeans says: "a pair of good quality jeans made with a good denim (preferably Japanese) will age with wear and obviously the better the jeans were in the first place the better they will age." If you do choose to wash your jeans Simon recommends hand washing in cold water with the jeans turned inside out (and adding a dye fixative every 10 washes). If they do start to smell but don't have a stain try popping them in the freezer this kills the bacteria"

If the experts on Jeans tell me not to wash them well who am I to argue!

btw if you have face/hand, (ie small) towels and bath (ie big) towels, doesn't that stop the face/bum problem? My kids only use huge towels as bath towels so I know their bum never goes near a face towel. Mind you, whether their hands are clean when they dry them on a face (hand) towel is another matter. 'Washing with no soap means wet and dirty, not clean' as I scream regularly...
