I agree with most of what SquatNow says about BTLers but I still don't like the suicide reference in his sig... does sound like he can't wait for them to start topping themselves. I totally see why people are rubbing their hands in glee as BTLers are getting in trouble which is ultimately of their own making, but I still think one can be more dignified in delight at others' downfalls than dancing on their future graves!

I wouldn't want any to be driven to suicide - I'd just laugh a lot when some lose their family home which they used to gear their BTL empires and have to go into rented with dodgy repairs, 2 months notice, not allowed to take their kids, have to rehome their pets and keep getting their deposits retained and the hassle of the small claims...:j
  • OT - A friend of mine phoned last night from Florida, where she is staying in a villa they go to every year. She said that a house on that estate is having an open day to sell everything in it, as it is a repossession.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

No I'm not a BTL landlord, I'm renting and struggling to save a deposit. A decline in house prices would help me quite a lot.

I do however believe it is wrong to revel in other's misfortunes and positively evile to wish suicide on people for being a simple landlord.

Your baseless ad hominem attack shows the weakness of your argument.

Buy-to-let has been helpful (in that I have rented a nicely done-up flat) and unhelpful (in that I can't afford to buy yet). It isn't evil.

SQUATNOW you obviuosly don't either realise the effect of margin calls on BTL property, if lenders do try to restore LTV ratios and only the badly managed lenders will be in this position, most are more than aware of the results of margin calls and that is why low LTV is usually conditioned to such mortgages.
You seem to take great delight in the prospective demise of BTL mortgage holders without realising that the real losers will be the first time buyers etc that you think are so hrd done by.

If things progress as you suggest and BTLetters end up haveing to adjust their LTVs or sell up many will just cut their losses and sell up, having little financial effect on themselves as they rationalise back to their residential homes(which incidently commonly have no mortgages). the resulting glut of housing only serves to then depress the market further, leaving your 10% mortgaged FTB stuck in the biggest equity trap of all with no prospect of moving for the next 7 years or worse if this has a ression triggering effect, how does losing their job/house but being left with a mortgage sound.

Its all well and good shouting about BTLeters and their demise without realising the further reachin effects and all this coming from someone who doesn't even have the ethic to pay for his own housing

    And me.

I can see his point about how looking forward to someone killing themselves is bad, but it's all down to ethics.

If Hitler had killed himself before WW2, would that have been bad?

    You're probably saying "no".

Ironically, Hitler genuinely believed everthing he was doing was in the best interests of the german people where-as BTL landlords know perfectly well that they are only operating in their OWN interests.

If all the BTL landlords had killed themselves before ramping house prices, would the UK be better or worse off? Suddenly my footer doesn't seem as offensive.

There are 2 bad things about BTL Landlords:
    A) They pushed up house prices.
    B) They did so with borrowed money.

So when they go bust and loose all their moeny and can't repay their debts, yes they'll lose everything they own, but they'll walk away. They won't be forced to repay all the money they lost. The people who leant them that money... the banks and ultimately the pension funds, will be left our of pocket.

When you pension company rings you and tells you your pension is worthless because they leant it all the BTLers who lost it all, do you think you'll want them to live long, fruitful lives, or will you go after them with a gun?

Ironically all the BTLers have done for the last 2 years is allow land speculators to cash out. They've blown your pension by jumping on the bandwagon after it's already left.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

Argue with my point using real sentences. Simple hurling abuse makes you look like you have no idea what your ranting about.

I never hurl unsubstantiated abuse at anybody, I make reasoned arguments.

I expect others to do the same.
