As long as Mr C draws up a will there should be no problem with TinC... he can leave his portion of the house in trust to you for life or until you sell up, at which point the his share would go to the kids.

But it is an awkward thing to discuss, and some people get quite uncomfortable about making a will - thinking it will tempt fate, I guess.

On the bright side, it's November, so there are solicitors out there who will do it for a charitable donation rather than payment.

Here is a link to Martin's advice page on the subject of wills http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/free-cheap-wills

  • Thanks for this sepa. This is kind of what we were thinking, but I needed to clarify in my mind.
Done a whole lot of paperwork this weekend and more to do tonight - some elusive documents to find too! This is stressful!

  • Things going very slowly. I think I would have had less trouble getting ING to accept the documents had I painted them myself left-handed and posted them still wet. It's looking very unlikely we'll be able to move before Christmas and since that's a condition of sale for the house we want who knows what will happen. Very stressed.

Oh dear, these things always seem to take longer than necessary. I hope you manage to get the house you want though. Good luck

    Sorry to hear that

Ring them every day (or even hour) maybe pestering them will make them sort things out quicker

At least they are checking things carefully

  • They are checking things very carefully. They are questioning mr C's payslip because of something which says 'loan' which isn't a loan. They're saying they will wait for novembers payslip so another two weeks. They say affordability isn't a problem and are refusing to speak to/ accept any letter from his company who can clarify exactly what it is. His address on bills was another issue but thanks to the lovely and very efficient ladies at Cheltenham BC I got him named on the council tax bill yesterday and picked it up. He was already on there, it was just addressed to me like all the other bills. I hate this lack of control! PO xx

  • We just have to persuade ING that our solicitor is legit now! Went to see him tonight and he seems to think that we'll be in before Christmas. That would be 4 weeks from now! Wow!
