The one about the looped ST reminded me of a fabulous story my grandmother use to tell. They were from a very large family so to make ends meet everyone had to do their bit and that meant going out to work as soon as they were old enough. My grandmother's sister was sent away to work in service for an old lady. In those days they were very naive and no one explained that facts of life and my grandmother's sister started her periods away from home and was understanably upset and confused. The old lady, not wanting to go into details handed her a looped ST and told her to take the rest of the day off and put the ST on and go and have a lie down. When the old lady went to check on her later she had soaked the ST in water, placed it across her forehead and put the loops around her ears like a cold compress. Bless her!!!

Reminded me of years ago in the early sixties.

I went round to these people's house and remarked on the large number of flies they had bobbing about on the ceiling (I was about 16 so hadn't learn any tact then).

I was told proudly, the reason for this was because they had just installed this new fangled central heating, you always get flies with that, they told me.

On the same theme - one xmas my friends hubby arrived bearing bottles of wine as pressies.I couldn't stop laughing as around each bottle was a stick on panty liner. My friend had wrapped each bottle in one to stop them banging against each other in the boot:rotfl: :rotfl: Funny thing was after our house his next stop was her boss:eek:

I remember reading in a beauty mag that ' in an emergency, you can use mayonaise as a face pack'. I decided I'd never need an emergency facial that much and got heat magazine instead!

a tip NOT involving ST.

if you get an insect bite but have no antiseptic/after bite cream use some deodorant either roll on or aerosol but if using aerosol make sure you dont spray it for too long or too near the skin as you can get a nasty "burn" with it.

When my sister was in hospital a few years ago, one of the other patients had a neck brace on, and the nurses had used sanitary towels to stop it rubbing on her ears. The poor girl was about 15, and all her friends came to visit.

It seems ears have more uses than stopping your hat from going over your eyes.
