Hi - this is not really a reply to any thread - I have just phoned my car insurer - MoreThan - to change my addresss and they wanted a £10 admin fee to do just that!! I couldn't believe it and told them I would rather change my insurer than give them £10 for a few clicks on the computer. After a bit of "discussion" and as I wanted to take out an extension for foreign cover, they said the admin fee would be waived. I will be casting around for a new insurer when renewal time comes around methinks!! What a rip off - or do all the companies charge this "admin fee"??
Yes we were charged that too! And we only had one months premium to pay!

I suspect that they would all charge for a change of address. Don't forget that this could have an effect on the risk, which would also have to be recalculated.

I know Stephen it just seemed a pity to have to pay the admin fee when a month later the policy would be no longer valid that's all.

  • I have just cut my car insurance down from £200 to £49.55 using the 4 steps and Quidco I'm over the moon.
The only things I'm worried about is getting the setting right on my Pc so the transaction can be tracked .
The need to delete all cookies from browser before you carry out payment
getting my £130 from insurance company as promised.
How long it will take for me to get the money back .
    Any reassurances please
    Cheers
  • Not sure if this has already been covered elsewhere. I see that online quotes will consider up to 9 years No Claims Discount (NCD) but renewal documents from Direct Line and More Than for example simply say 5 years as the maximum NCD level. This means that although I have not claimed for over 9 years I cannot get a letter from my current insurer to satisfy the new insurer. Surely the appraoch from all insurers should be standardised to show up to 9 years claims history. Any comments or useful tips??

My car insurance renewal quote came in at £504 this year because we had a claim when our car was stolen in January. Didnt expect to get much off this due to losing some no claims discount but finally paid only £230!! No way did i expect to get a quote for £274 less!! What a result!!

    Hi
I thought I would post this as it might help someone.
We had cover from Churchill for car insurance and seperately for uk and european breakdown cover but after looking at Martins advise and ditching the the protected no claims we now have cover from M & S which includes 90 days european breakdown cover as well as uk and Key care for and saves us £90. This would have been £27 better again if I felt confident enough to arange it on-line, maybe I'll have the knowledge next year.

    Hidden benefits of car insurance
Automobile insurance policyholders don't need to worry if they purchase a new vehicle and forget to notify their insurance company right away. Car insurance typically provides 30 days of coverage for newly acquired vehicles.

That and many other less obvious benefits typically are included in auto insurance policies.

Others include benefits ranging from limited reimbursement for transportation if you can't reach your destination because of a crash to paying for windshield repair. These items are included with most car insurance policies.

"Most drivers figure that car insurance pays for auto crash injuries, repair of cars damaged in crashes, and for vehicles that are stolen," said Bernie Schick, a Nationwide Insurance director in charge of product development.

"But car insurance -- especially full coverage -- pays for a wide range of services. The purpose is to try to get the policyholder, and others affected in car crashes, back to normal as soon as possible," Schick added.

Coverage also is extended to others who drive the insured car.

For example, relatives who live with the insured and drive the insured's car, with or without permission, are covered. So are others who have permission to drive the car.

    Other benefits of car insurance:

    * The deductible for collision coverage is waived when the crash involves two cars insured by the same company.
    * Payment for a chipped windshield that's repaired instead of replaced; the deductible may also be waived.
    * Payment up to a specified amount for wages lost during court testimony regarding a crash.
    * Stereo equipment damaged in a crash may be covered up to a specified amount if the primary control unit is installed in areas specified by the insurance company.
    * Payment for travel expenses up to a specified amount when a car is damaged or stolen.
    * Insurance companies may have a waiting period before this benefit can be received.
    * Coverage for personal effects damaged in a crash such as clothing and luggage, up to a specified amount.
    * Bail bond premiums for traffic-related violations.
    * Policyholders are advised to read their insurance policies or seek information from company representatives for specific amounts and terms of coverages.

Sorry Martin, just wanted to correct some grammar...

In the Tesco Compare section when you're talking about Direct Line you use "their" when you should have used "they're".

    :)
