  • Hi,

I was very disappointed after the time consuming effort involved, but it was sold to me on Radio 2, I got a quote for £274, £48 less than my renewal. I went with the link to the provider and ended up having to ring them as the figure was altered. They then quoted me £360! They advised me that the figures given on these insurance supermarkets are guideline figures only and they often can't match them.......a sad waste of time.

Anther update guys, if you don't know Admiral now have a product called Multicar, you get a discount for having more than one car insured with them. Each car has its own policy holder, own ncb etc, just under one policy so you get an extra discount.
  • Just haggled £60 off my car insurance renewal quote. Asked them if they could price match the Post Office's quote - like for like. Managed to get free legal cover (worth £29) on top as I said that was included in the Post Office's quote (a lie!) so really saved myself £89. Oh ... and lied about the excess - said it was £200 when it was £250. :rotfl:

Thanks Martin for giving me the confidence to haggle. :T

    Hi there

Does anyone have any comments/experience re Post Office car insurance. My insurance is due for renewal shortly and I've done the confused and insuresupermarket thang - the Post Office was v cheap but I wondered about the policy?

    Thanks
    x

I was insured with them last year and had to claim, as I was only insured third party they just didn't care, the claim was eventualy settled 50/50 when proffesonals thought I was at no fault (I was on the main road the other driver came out of a side street, but was insured fully comp). Also they kept waiting for over 4 months in case the other driver found witnesses, (four months? like they'd remember in any detail!)

As I bought a new car around the same time as renewing my insurence I foud that the difference in insurance between a 1 litre vauxhall nova and a 1.4 renault 19 automatic was £400 with the post office, yet only £50 with most other insureance companys/brokers.(I got quotes for the nova before it developed very expensive problems, so I had renewal quotes for this before I bought my new car)
  • Don't just think in terms of car insurance when looking for car insurance! Sometimes you can get valuable extras thrown in. My car is insured with CIS and the rate is fairly competitive, but I've got Road Rescue Plus included with the policy, and this includes caravan rescue even in Europe.

I've just insured my car by going through Quidco and will get £80 cashback (I think, fingers crossed I do  ), have also saved £65! Present insurer wanted £395.01 total payable, includes breakdown cover & monthly payment scheme - new insurer wants £330.12 includes the same breakdown cover & monthly payment scheme :j :j :money:

All I've got to do now is tell my present insurer what to do with their insurance quote ;):D Oh and almost forgot, wait for my cashback :T

Now I'm off to enjoy a well earned glass (or 2!) of wine, shame I couldn't have bought it through Quidco :D
  • Hi Martin,

I 'm new to the site but got your email alert today about car insurance and thought I'd give it a go. I spent 2 hours doing the online quotes and speaking to my insurers to see if they could offer me a better deal, they wouldn't budge, so I moved my insurance to Tesco and have gone from paying 1161 to 596 - not a bad mornings work! THANK YOU!!

My car insurance is a nightmare as I had an accident a year or so ago and i'm in a "high risk" area of Birmingham. I haven't yet had a quote under £800 in three years of driving history, on a Ford Fiesta. I was putting my details in on one insurance website as my insurance is up in just over a month. Anyway, it asked me for what category my job came in (my job can varyingly be described as accountancy, customer service, debt collection, adminstration) and my job didn't seem to come into any of their categories. I was trying the different job categories, and I was surprised as it seemed to be varying the quotes by as much as £45 - why does it matter anyway what job i do? So anyway, it's something to bear in mind for those of us who have office jobs that could fit into any category!
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • Don't know if this has been posted before, but beware of charges involved in changing name and address with Budget Car insurers. They charged me £25 just to change my address on existing policy - and then they got it wrong. Have changed details with other insurers - no-one else charged for this service.
  • Hi, just re-newed my car ins. Used the two sites recommended and got a very good quote, £70 cheaper than my renewal. Then went to tax car at Post Office, they gave me a leaflet for an insurance quote + £50 cash back if you take their ins.
Their quote was good, the policy terms better than i had been offered, and with the £50 cashback ( postalorder), the total savings is £90. I was quoted £186 then the cashback of £50, therefore ins cost= £136, fully comp with my mrs as named driver for a Corsa SXI 1.7DTI.
The post office is worth checking out!
    Easy come Easy go
