So little with me :-(
Just sorted out my new car today (a 98 Mx5 1.8) but all the quotes are massive evenwith confused.
I'm 25 and have 3 years definite NCB bonus but am half way through my 4th year.
The cheapest quote I've found is on my own with an old insurer of mine, Bell Direct, at £475 for Bonus Accelator or £540 12 months. This is £200 more than elsewhere! It is also almost exactly what I pay for my current insurance on a 1.4 Renault Clio!!!
Oh dear such is life! Will just have to get this and enjoy my (albeit expensive!) new car!!!! ;-)0 -
My renewal insurance was nearly £400 with Halifax (who use esure). I have tried many online services and was getting nowhere fast - the price was always more expensive (or rather, it looked a lot cheaper with insuresupermarket.com but then when you went through to the site and entered all the details it was more expensive - as they all generally ask the same questions, why don't they refine their site to let you enter all the relevant details?).
Almost giving up hope of saving anything, I went onto the Esure site and put in my details - £45 saving. I thought this wasn't bad, but before pressing buy I thought I would check the cashback sites - found that Rpoints were offering 1500 points (£15). I clicked on the link and went through putting in the information again (assuming that simply bringing up my details would mean I would not get the cashback) - now down another £6 (for identical information) plus the points. Doesn't make sense but I am with the same company for £50 less and £15 equivalent in Rpoints - I also paid on my Sainsburys Credit Card and therefore have it at 0% for 7 months and get cashback/Nectar points.
Just a few questions - the Esure site says that the price includes a 10% discount for new customers buying online - how do they define that? Can the company stop you from starting a new policy rather than renewing? (I ask as I tried to enter my details for home insurance on the Halifax site in January and also on their phone line - they would not let me as they said I was an existing customer).

This is my 1st ever post, but I have to tell someone!!!
I used the money supermarket to get an udea of cheap/expensive quotes.
I have a BMW 328, on money super market it came in at £477 so I rang and filled them in on my 3pts and it jumped to over £700 for an sp30!!!
My current insurer 1st quoted £730 so I rang and told them I'd been quoted around £500 they came back with £630!! for loyalty.
Still unhappy i used a search engine and came up with http://www.adrianflux.co.uk . its a bit similar to confused....enter your details wait for email. They 1st came back with £592. But on the email it said to ring and see if they could get me anymore savings. So i rang and quoted the £500 mark, they said they could do £510 with only £250 excess and protected no claims. So I said I'd think about it, rang this morning and asked of they could get it down anymore and finally got it for £478.66 (paid optional £13 extra for a policy that covers everyone on the car in event of an accident) so eventually I saved £251!!! (now for a cheap dvd recorder!!!)
Hope this helps someone.SAFC 1st Ever Coca-cola Championship champions!!!0 -

Can anyone help me?
Separated from husband last year, pending divorce. Car insurance on BOTH cars was always in his name (mad, I know - one used to be in mine but he changed it......).
I am female, 42, been driving since I was 18, never had an accident but according to my insurers cannot use any of husband's no claims so my insurance increases tremendously.
I find this soooooo unfair. Any thoughts/ideas gratefully received.0 -
Hi - try https://www.confused.com and https://www.quinn-direct.com.Both sites ask about named driver experience and give worthwhile discounts for it.
Best of luck0 -
Looking to renew car insurance for my wife with me a second driver. Tesco online is £40 dearer than their own renewal notice. That is £30 dearer than Direct Choice/Broker on Confused.com I hope I am comparing like with like. I think so.
What a pain to keep entering details especially of the vehicle that could be obtained from DVLA or previous insurer or their central bureau.0 -
Here's a GOTCHA that you may not have spotted regarding car insurance.
If you elect to pay it in monthly installments then they charge you a WHOPPING 19-21% APR interest  (at least, those that I have seen are at this level, there may be better or worse rates).
So rather than pay a £50 deposit and £30 monthly (ball park figures) I paid using my 14.9% credit card which I am paying off at £50 a month (more if I can afford it - Tesco's £50 cash-back will be going straight here).
I could probably save more with some balance transferring jiggery pokery, but my current 0% (on another card) does not expire until December, and I'm loath to transfer any balances until then.
The point is, don't pay installments. If you don't have the funds to pay up front then look at a cheaper way of borrowing the money.

Hi (and hurrah to my first post after loads of lurking and saving many pennies)
DH has a mad (and completely NOT moneysaving) car, but doesn't use it for commuting - as he walks to work - taking this option off the insurance saved a whopping £180 with elephant.com
Moral of the story - remember to tell your insurer that you dont use the car for commuting/travel to and from work and you can save a packet!
