My £1 test transfer is still in transit - I'll let you know when (if?) it arrives.

Thanks. (Are you 'at liberty to say' who you bank with?)

I'm not sure that it would help you. Suffice to say that I did everything online, typed in the sort code, account number & amount and hit the 'Submit' button. It told me the account was a NatWest one, but other than that seems to have worked as expected.

OK, if you don't want to say, fair enough. I have several current accounts with just pennies in them & so I was just wondering which might be a 'safe' bank to 'mule' funds through into my K.Edge a/c from my main Coventry1st a/c. From memory, I think the CS girl at K.Edge had mentioned that maybe there was also a problem with Halifax [my chq a/c] as well as the Coventry.

FWIW I maintain a savings account with the same bank as my current account. I can then transfer instantly between the savings and current account. It doesn't pay the best rate of interest, but can be handy for 'parking' funds temporarily in these sort of circumstances such that you get a bit more than the usual derisory rate offered by most current accounts.

Yep, I do that too. But in this case the account I use doesnt provide printed statements except at a cost and five to 7 days wait so had to transfer the funds to my high street current account that I still maintain with a small amount of money... I read later that some people here have been told that they can provide Kaupthing with a 'void cheque' if no bank statement a/v but this is something that has been dreamed up since I rang Kaupthing who had an immovable stance on bank statements at that time.

It may interest people to know that Kaupthing are getting peoples bank statements onto the system but it then takes a further 24 - 48 hours or more before getting the opening email. I sent my statement in post on Saturday and it went on system yesterday but customer services thought it would be sometime tonight or tomorrow before I get the 'welcome' email.
  • Just had a go at opening an account but was put off by the page that said minimum deposit £1000-9999.
Looks like ICICI was a good bet.

just wanted to check about the 'freepost' address
Have those of you who've opened an account sent your bank statement to
    Freepost Kaupthing Edge (only)

Or did you put the London address on also.

    Seems a bit strange!

I commented on that earlier in this thread:

but the single line address worked fine. FWIW the slip that they enclosed when they returned my bank statement had a Nottingham address, so I guess that's where it ends up!

Put me off getting a spam/advert when opening the Terms and Conditions - dunno whether they're just money grubbing or stupid (I'm sticking with IceSave though - one of the better "web experiences" alongside HSBC, Coventry, and Birmingham Midshires - IMHO of course, "your mileage may vary" as they say).

Hardly - most of my Icesave is in 2 year fixed at 6.6%, I'll "lose" the 0.1% by putting the liquid stuff with Coventry at 6.4% (guaranteed until end 2008, no adverts etc) instead.

When banks seem to be queueing up to offer good rates, I still think it's stupid to go the arrisole route (YMMV).

Hmmm, just tried an application with them. I have to say I was pretty irritated when, after filling in the first screen of the application, I moved to the next screen and got a 'session has expired' error - I hope that's not a sign of things to come!
