Hey who needs clothes shopping while I can go to my textile class! Just finished making a skirt, turned my old (too short, charity shop-bouhgt) jeans into a skirt by undoing the legs and adding panels of tweed fabric that were already in the school - I am so proud!

Will post the photo once DD's boyfriend posts it to me on email.

I agree, with winter coming in, we'll be wanting to do more homely things.. so I'll keep a check as well! :D

Well not very 'shabby chic'...but I've just been sat cutting old plastic bags into strips to knit a shopping bag...my DD3 thought I'd gone mad when she popped in at dinner -time to see me. She said 'Mum, whats the point in cutting up plastic bags to make another bag??!!'

Well I'm having fun anyway! :D:D

Let us know how it goes, Mags, I keep meaning to do that, but I have so many knitting and crochet started and unfinished projects on the go that I daren't start another!

Explain to DD that a knitted bag made of plastic bags is a lot more durable than the flimsy bags themselves once it is knitted (and also you feel the "warm green glow" of the true environmental warrior :D when you use it!).

really tempted to go into town and have a look around the charity shops now! but i'm going to stay home and make biscuits instead. Can't afford any new things for my room atm! Might nip to focus and swipe some wall paper samples *cheeky*

I have a computer desk in my room, can I spruce it up at all? it's the typical 'wood' you get in flat pack argos things. this one infact!

As promised, the skirt I made by opening up a pair of old jeans and adding two tweed panels, one in front and one at the back.

I am wearing it now and it looks really good!

  • Hi cinny91, it just depends what you want to do with the desk it will probably be melamine, you can go to b and q and get a melamne paint for it, but i would just give it an undercoat of white emulsion then you can paint on top of this, i would use a satin coat, then an acrylic varnish for protection, i do this with my kitchen units every 3 years and its very effective, good luck BSBxx

Hi mumoftwo...I think a few people joined this site. It is brilliant for shabby chic ideas. Very inspiring http://shabbychiccafe.com/

I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.
