I have a (not exactly cheap:eek: ) pine chest of drawers I bought a bit back...and its now got candlewax marks on the top (as I hadnt realised my candles were dripping through the cloth I had laid on top of it). I've prevented any further ones happening by taking someones suggestion to have a sheet of thick glass cut to size to put on top - but anyone got any suggestions as to how to remove those candlewax stains there now?0

Has it still got 'blobs' of candle wax on it ? If it has you could carefully scrape those off with a palette knife. If not and its the stain thats the worry, if the drawers have been wax polished rubbing with wire wool will take it back a bit, enough to re-wax and either remove the stains or at least blend them in.
I had a similar thing happen with our coffee table.........very old distressed thing it is (tabe been cut down) and because its so old the marks blend in so they hardly notice.
I'd ask OH but he's having an after dinner doze............lolMary

Pipkin - i would love a house full of 'weird' things! I love quirky stuff but DH isn't that keen! Also i've never had the courage to do it, normally play it quite safe when it comes to decor but this thread has given me lots of inspiration!!!![/quote]
I've got an old ship's figurehead (lifesize) in my dining room - DH only let me have her because she's got a rather large chest!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
Ah, that would be very cool Norma!
I would never want to be cruel to animals, but I would quite like to have a big set of antlers on a wooden plaque for my house (after I saw one in a shabby chic type shop in amongst all the other goodies, and it looked fab with that kind of stuff).M.A.C.A.W member number 39

If you like Cath Kidson try looking at www.countrycream.co.uk I was given a catalogue and its full of the stuff you are describing.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

I love these blinds from the country cream site:

I think they would be dead easy to make (I've made similar, but not backed with an alternate fabric on the back).M.A.C.A.W member number 39

This thread is fab.....and perfect for the OS board. I love vintage.
My top tip is Farrow & Ball OIL eggshell....covers everything & i never use undercoat just a quick key with sandpaper, once you've used F&B you'll never go back. It uses pigments rather than dyes for colour & the range is perfect for a shabby chic look & for £12.99 you can paint a whole lot of furniture (moneysaving tip ... look out for the homebase 10% days) Also freecycle...most of the furniture in my house comes from here and it costs nothing but a lick of decent paint.
I don't know how to post pictures but there are some on my blog
ted and agnes and the are also some other awesome blogs that you can get tons of ideas from in the links part.
Some other tips as well....try the free sample service from the posh wallpaper people they will usually send you a couple of pieces of A4 and these are great for little projects. Try to look at the shape or pattern of things often a nasty piece of 70's furniture can be transformed by a lick of paint. Old is best although the reproductions look nice they don't age well and never seem to get the right patina + the older stuff is usually cheap if you can put up with a few scuffs & chips.....charity shops, charity shops, charity shops are great. Stuff looks naff on the shelf, shoved to the back for 10p but can look great in the right setting so never dismiss that ugly 70's cup with big blue flowers (exception to this rule is anything from the 1980's which is all vile!)simplicity is key0
