My children kick the chic out of my house every day of the week! unfortunately I have no skills with a paintbrush etc and, although I know what I like, my house is too full of people and their stuff to spend time on interior design. I look forward to being able to do more chic and less shabby in about 15 years time!

Oh heaven a shabby chic thread, finally got the room i love after going from old style to modern when i married my husband. Started changing last jan when we had to have a new fire. Couldn't affort new gas fire and piping changing so opened up fireplace and got a £300 electric stove fire for £30 of ebay, that was it there was no stopping me. Had already got an old pine refectory table in dining area of room that hubby hated. £120 with 8 chairs out of local paper scrubs clean then use almond oil spray and it comes up a treat. Next after the fire came antique pine tv cabinet and matching computer cabinet ebay and adtrader. Then last week got rid of light laminate floor and got rustic dark oak laminate from wickes, ummed and ahhed whether to invest in solid wood floor but decided on laminate and using cash saved towards new kitchen. The floor looks really great but checked on here and got good underlay and proffesional fitting thanks to son and son in law who are both in the trade. oops sorry its so long

Thats lovely but so impractical if you are short like me!
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Could always convert a tallboy wardrobe they aren't as tall, and more managable.

  • Furball - That wardrobe/larder thingy midgig is ace! Would love one - and of course the kitchen to put it in! If you do try making one make sure you let us know you get on.

I had a big cupboard built last year. It's part of the garage partioned off and the door is in the dinning room. It is currently a bit of a mess, but might try to motivate DH to put me some shelves up and having a nice big larder.

Brilliant! :j I used to have a wardrobe like that except it had one deep drawer. Would have made a fabulous conversion like this.

Wouldnt be a problem converting a wardrobe as son is a joiner but getting rid of a tall fridge freezer unit and getting an integral fridge, won today on ebay for less than £30. Had to convince hubby i didn't like the closed in feeling and need more workspace. So don't think he would be happy if i replaced it with an even bigger unit, even though they have the perfect one just to match the kitchen i picked. Although i love haribos kitchen i might just have changed my mind .......again.
