Renting out my house for Ryder Cup 2010

Ive looked into this and the houses are really expensive. Will they really go for this price? We live in Monmouth so maybe we are too far away to rent? Anybody know the best way to rent ? I looked at a couple of the sites above and its difficult to say which is the best deal but whats the deal with the commission ? I see the ryderrentals.co.uk site and it doesnt say anything about commission. Is this correct?
Basically:
Who is the best to advertise with?
Is Monmouth too far away to rent our house out?
How much should we charge?
Let me know before I fork out any cash.

Same as you. I'm thinking the prices look a bit unrealistic. I'm wondering whether the only people making money are those advertising houses for £100 an advert and that theres going to be loads of people thinking their going to get £10-£15K for renting out their house !!!0 -
My new house is less than 2 miles away from the Celtic Manor, I am interested to see how much a brand new 5 bedroom house will go for.
It could be  all round by the sound of it.0 -
Hi,
This website has listed my property and we have had 7 enquiries so far. newportgolf2010 .com
My friend has already found an American family through Popham's website
- who have booked their house for two weeks - earning her £12,000
newportgolf2010 . com
Is the website set up by Alix Popham (Wales Rugby Player).
They are the only company specialising only in ryder cup 2010 rentals that are based in South Wales (Newport)
Good luck and check it out people!
I am hoping to rent my house out for £10,000 for two weeks !!
This is a once in a lefetime opportunity as far as i see it - and you have got to be in it to win it!!
:money: :T:beer: Good Luck0 -
Aparently £1,000 per person per week is a realistic figure as that works out at £135 per night.
There are no hotels left to book and at this price, rich American / European visitors can book an entire property for the duration of the ryder cup -
Worth a go i think on newportgolf2010 .com0 -

Might have a look at this one then.
I must admit I'm a little concerned about shelling out £100 or so and getting no sniff of a booking.0 -
I've mentioned this elsewhere on the board, but it's my opinion that anyone looking to rent their property for the Ryder Cup should be extremely wary of paying agents. Most, if not all, of these 'companies' have been set up purely for the Ryder Cup, and have no track record or recommendations.
yeti77 - with respect, you're a new poster (welcome), and both of your posts (both on this thread) are concerning the same website, which you name in each post. The cynic in me thinks that perhaps you work for this company, or have an interest in advertising it for your own personal gain perhaps?
Tellingly, there have been no posts from regular moneysavers to say they've successfully rented (received a booking, with contracts exchanged, deposits given etc) their property for the cup.
A great suggestion was made earlier in this thread - if you're keen on renting your property, then why not set up your own website advertising just your house? You could advertise links ot it on facebook, freeads etc, and you could then see (using page counters & other statistic trackers) how many people have viewed your details and where from. Moonfruit is a very easy site to use to set up such a website, especially for those with little or no webdesign experience.
Maybe in the coming months, these new agencies will have rented out all of their properties (the cup is still 17 months away after all!), and my fears will be proved unfounded, but please take care before handing over any money to anyone!0 -

I too wonder how many people are setting up websites and making money form the £100 to advertise your house with no real knowledge or even intention of marketing it.0 -

You hit the nail on the head! Search google for "ryder cup accommodation" or "ryder cup house rental" - the first natural result is the website to use - accommodationfortheevent com/rydercup
accommodationfortheevent com/rydercup/houserental

Phil99999 - every single one of your posts has mentioned that website.

Andy - you are not allowed to advertise your own website on here.
It does look very professional, but most people on here are very wary of parting with money to advertise without guarantees of the property being taken. Perhaps you could have a new angle and only take a fee if the property is rented out successfully. I notice at the moment you are charging £55 to post, plus £45 if you take the photos. Then you take a 15% commission on the rental - I do not believe the other rental companies are taking commission?!0
