Sally, as a matter of interest, have you established when your cheque to them cleared ?

    Hi,
    5th March, 2008.

Both opening packs received today, one dated the 3rd March and one dated 8th March. I am going to write to them regarding the descrepancy in information they give me and see what they say. Sally

Too late I think Toastie. Now withdrawn.

Yeah it is. I walked past after i sent that text. There's no sign on the door to say how you get in. They won't be getting my money now!

    Hi,
Today we got the papers from WB regarding the Star account. I too was told the account would start to earn interest from the date they received the application/deposit (in my case posted 14/02, 'sanctioned' 16/02 on their system) This is not the case. The letter states the account was set up on the 3rd March - so 16 days just doing nothing! Definitely not as efficient as Icesave IMO. Sally

It should receive interest from the date of receipt +2 days for a cheque?

Well worth phoning them (make sure you have a while!) to confirm the date.

My letter stated the 23rd Feb , but I earn interest from 19th. Qutie strange admin.
    Nothing to see here

Had an updated rates leaflet through the post today from the West Brom.

Although no longer open to new savers, the rate on the Star Easy access account has been kept at 6.55%

I've had that as well this week.

I've just done a 'test' withdrawal (of .73p ! ) over the phone to check that my bank a/c is correctly linked to my West Brom Star a/c -- after they asked, I sent & they received a letter from me requesting the detailed a/c be duly linked when I enquired previously about phone w'drawals. Hopefully this huge amount of funds will arrive b4 the middle of next week. (Yes, I KNOW I've used up one of my 12 withdrawals but I didn't figure I'd be doing that many w'drawals anyway...)
Expect the worst & hope for the best...

Well in the end they did open up one of these accounts for me and I got the stationary pack a few days ago. It seemed to imply that I had also recieved 'other literature' but that is completely false.
The information in it is extremely limited and I am still wondering how to go about filling in the paying in slip. There is a list of account types where you have to type in your account number but none of them match the name of the star easy access account. The closest is the account named as 'direct easy access' and in the absence of any confirmation that is the one I will end up using. I have had other postal accounts and this one really is threadbare when it comes to stationary. I wonder if you get a statemant each time a postal transaction is carried out.

I made a BACS transfer into my account and rang to make sure it had been received. I asked if they send out confirmation of receipt when a payment is made to them, and I was advised that they don't send it automatically, you have to ask them for one.

Very interesting 1066 that you have been able to do that. In my pack there is no mention of a sort code plus I innocently presumed that the account was only allowed to be operated by phone or post as per the bumpf. Wish I had thought of doing a transfer as we posted a six figure cheque before Easter (which I'd totalyy forgotten about:cool:) and we are still waiting for it to clear.

I opened a Magic 8 with them yesterday, and they gave the Sort Code and Account number to use to set up a Standing Order into it.
I asked them if it was the same numbers to use if I wanted to transfer into my Star Easy Access (with a different Reference Number) and they said yes.

    Sort Code: 40-46-13
    Account: 91066277
Reference: Roll number from your passbook
