How long has it taken for receipt of account details etc from West Brom? I applied 3 weeks ago and my account is still in “process of being opened”. I’ve contacted them a couple of times, but no one can tell me how much longer it’s likely to take. Problem is I’m closing another account, the proceeds of which I will be receiving shortly and intended to put into Star Easy Access account.

  • I opened my account with a cheque dated 21st Feb. They told me they received it 25th and that interest would start from that date and not the day the cheque was cleared. Today the cheque has not yet been cleared and is earning nothing in my current account. They told me that it may be up to two weeks but all interest is back dated so I'm thinking do I put they money back into savings account for a week or two and earn double bubble but risk losing the 6.55% if West Brom cash cheque early.
  • Ah! I forgot to ask, this 12 withdrawals business - does it mean that if you take interest monthly then you can't make any more withdrawals?

In case this helps, I received this reply last week......

    Dear Mr P*****

    Thank you for your email.

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your email.

Yes, I can confirm that you can deposit or withdraw funds from your
Star Easy Access account via telephone. However, as of yet, we do not
have the facilities for you to do so online.

If you have any further queries, then please telephone our Customer
    Services on 0845 33 00 633. (Alanfp's note - don't use this No. - dial 22 at the end instead of 33 , or better still search saynoto0870)

    Yours sincerely

Seems likely up to 12 withdrawals permitted per year in addition to external payment of interest. A quick glance at my info leaflet + copy application form appears to confirm. Lewis, have you tried contacting West Brom to ask? If so, it would help others, here, if you can post the response, please.

It all looks really good for me. I got a branch in my Town Centre.

    HOWEVER

You can't get through the bloody door! It has two electric doors needing your debit card to open the second or if you don't have a debit card you have to wait for the security to let you in. It seems a bit pants. Alot people end up just waiting between the 1st and Second door and never get looked at.

    Hi,
Today we got the papers from WB regarding the Star account. I too was told the account would start to earn interest from the date they received the application/deposit (in my case posted 14/02, 'sanctioned' 16/02 on their system) This is not the case. The letter states the account was set up on the 3rd March - so 16 days just doing nothing! Definitely not as efficient as Icesave IMO. Sally
