  • It would appear that West Brom are living down to their reputation (again).
Being a victim of numerous "administrative errors" perpetrated by them, I maintain a wide berth from them and consider them to be the Comet of the Building Society sector. (Anyone who has puchased something which has developed a fault after 28 days will know what I mean).

Appears no coincedence that Westbromwich BS didnt implement "2.6.6" until 18th February 2008 whereas most other Banks and Building Societies implemented "2.4.6" and "2.6.6" on 1 December 2007. ( Significance of the 2 is when they start paying interest on cheque deposits ( after 2 days working days following receipt instead of 3 working days following receipt.)

I dont believe it had anything to do with an "administrative error" more to do with them wanting to keep interest on other peoples money for as long as possible.

  • Isn't it just ?
How do they do that ?
    Fame at last

Do you think that I should have inserted the obligatory "allegedly" in my post ? :rotfl:
  • Just updating my spreadsheet to take account of all the interest rate drops on various building society accounts :( .

I know the West Brom Star Easy Access was withdrawn but can't find it under live or dead accounts - is it just me? Can anyone else see it?

I sent off my application with a cheque for 100 quid on the 22nd of Feb and have yet to hear any confirmation that they have set up my account yet. The cheque has not been cashed and I don't trust them enough to believe that they will process my application after the 5th if it hasn't been opened already. I have a feeling that they will wait until this week before sending letters out to people saying that they missed the deadline (even for applications that has got to them.)

Depends how much they need the cash. ;) ( I would be interested to know whether the rate has been reduced now. )

I sent them an email a couple of days ago saying this, but haven't had a reply yet.

Edit: Rate's still 6.55%, no explanation why it's not appearing on the withdrawn list.

I have had my confirmation of account opening, in the mail this morning. Two separate letters, both dated 28th Feb. I have NOT, however, yet received the promised "Welcome Pack" nor the "literature you have already received" apparently containing "further product information and General terms & Conditions". I will give it another coupla days before I ring up & enquire.
Expect the worst & hope for the best...
