Anyone know how the new signatures actually work or successfully revised one?

I've tried to update my sig today, and can't get it to change! I know there has been a lot of debate elsewhere on the site about whether or not they should change, and don't want to get into that here as well, but just wondering if anyone can offer practical advice? (I know it's a very minor thing, but I can't be the only one who takes great delight in updating totals etc!).

My 2 problems are:

It says you can use up to 5 lines, that being 5 presses of the 'return' key. I've removed several lines but still keep getting this error.

It says you can have up to 300 characters. Previously I was always told that I had exceeded 1300 characters including BCC code (which I didn't really understand), so thought this would make it easier. But now it says I'm exceeding 1000 characters including BCC code with no mention of 300 characters. Does anyone know how many characters it uses to do simple things like change colour, strikethrough, press return etc? Or is there a way of changing it all to non BCC code (whatever that means!).

I'll paste my current sig here for reference just in case I have to delete it in the meantime while working on it, and remove it from the bottom instead:

I've posted on the site feedback board to see if there's any official guidance on how it actually adds up. See the reply from 'up high':

PAP, there's no way they can say your sig is too big! Same for everyone else - it's just so difficult to actually change it.

I'm still going to have a baby due in 5 wks 5 days when he's 12 years old at this rate!

I don't have a clue myself but had a go the other day and it seems to have done it but I don't understand what BCC is
  • panda i dont mind having a small sig i really dont but i dont see how they can say 5 lines then not allow 5 lines  I changed it the day the annoncement was published so it was within the rules. I update my daily spends and its too many lines ~ now unless i cant count to 5 i am sure they have set the 'barriers' wrong :rotfl:

I was able to so mine until yesterday - the new rules only came in this afternoon, so if you try again it probably won't let you edit your existing one.

PAP, I totally agree. I like keeping all my totals in my sig, and Martin himself has said he doesn't object to that. It's just getting it to fit in with the new rules that's the problem - it would appear that us ultra-thrifty DFWs have a problem with this '5' business! Trust us lot to want more for our money!!!

Make sure there aren't any unused lines below your sig text. I just did mine and couldn't figure out why it kept saying I'd used more than 5 lines when I'd only used 4 but it turned out to be unused blank lines below my text... of course I only found that out after I'd removed all the formatting and colours (GRR!)
