Has anyone bought the dk wool from B & M ? i think its about 89p for 100grm ball. Today i noticed they had big balls of arran wool in 400grm i think but could`nt see the price.
I usually buy 100grm balls from local £1 and its not bad quality.
i buy a lot of the wool from band m, its a real bargain, and knits up lovely

Circular needles changed my knitting life about 4 years ago!

I no longer knit garments that have to be seamed and knitted up from flat pieces. With circular needles I can knit jumpers and dresses all in one piece, starting from the neck down or starting from the bottom up.

It's a dream when I come to fitting jumpers or dresses. I put the stitches onto a length of wool and get the person to try it on. I can then work out where to put darts for the bust or the ease for the hips/bottom. Young men particularly like to be able to get the shape they want across the chest (to show off their muscles!) rather than end up with a baggy obviously handknitted thing. With a flat knit jumper you have to wing it and hope that it fits. With circular knitting you can customise and adjust as you go along QUOTE]

Kay you have completely thrown me with your breadth of knowledge- how on earth do you do darts on knitted garmentss? Just when I thought I was becoming more skilled I`m back to the bottom again! Just like knitting snakes and ladders! xx

I use knitpro too - far less memory in the cables than in any of the other circulars I've tried.

I have a bit of a problem. As a novice, I tried to split splice some cotton acrylic yarnn and it's coming undone in the garment. Should I use a couple of threads to sew this into other stitches to stop it coming apart? I'm a novice - you live and learn!

Hiya - funny replying to you on here:D. The trick is to always split a good length of both the yarn you are knitting with and the new ball - I split at least four or five inches. Then splice only about two inches leaving the remain splits hanging - this way you can weave them in after a few rows.

If it is possible to weave in the yarn securely with a sewing needle, do this - but personally I would frog it and re-knit - only because I have had the nasty experience of a ruined sweater due to the same problem you're having now:(.
Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever :D

I'm pleased to find this thread - I am a new knitter! Started about a month ago and have completed one scarf for me, full of mistakes, but I still love it. And you can't notice once it's on.

Since then, I have started two stripy scarves for OH and a friend and they're coming along nicely - they look a million times better than my first attempt, so I'm really pleased with them. I'm going to be knitting lots of christmas pressies throughout the year!

I really want to try a hat next - any ideas? I only know how to knit and purl, though I intend to try a stockinette stitch scarf soon. I want to do it with fluffy wool, so I can give it to my sister for christmas with a handwarmer - she is always cold!

Try a knitting pattern search on Google for a beanie hat.....you should find some free ones there or join Ravelry.com. There are some great free pattterns there and helpful tips.

And when you are feeling a little more confident give knitting a hat on circular pins a go as it is so quick to knit a hat on them and no seams to stitch up.

I have been thinking about investing in circular needles as a friend swears by them. I don't really understand how they work though - maybe I'm being thick!

Not thick at all! It's a good question.

Here's a link to a 2 minute demonstration of how to knit a 'straight' piece (like a scarf) on circular needles:

And here's another video on how to knit 'tubes' like jumpers, hats, socks, sleeves etc.

it looks more complicated than it is - honestly! :j
  • Hi everyone,
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Alan Darts Dormouse in a teapot pattern ?
I knit for a charity and would like to knit this for a fundraiser but cant afford to pay the money people on ebay are asking for this pattern.

KC, did you order this in the alpaca yarn or the cheaper dk yarn. I am thinking about ordering the bee one as a birthday present for hubby and not sure if I should go for the more expensive option.

Also how long did it take to come through after ordering?

    Hi

I can be a bit of a yarn snob at times but I figured that it was only for a tea cosy so ordered the DK. it looks and feels quite nice but I've not started knitting it yet. It took about 4 or 5 days to be delivered. the bee one looks nice too!

Oh, and the instruction look easy to follow1
