its got a silver thread running though in pale purple.
More of a girls colours, don't mind knitting it to give to charity shop as have no little girls in family.
    Any Patten ideals please?
Hi, I have knitted umpteen scarves in Patons Spritz for xmas presents etc. This wool is aran weight and the pattern I knit is lacy and very effective with the silver thread running through it. Two balls knitted on 5mm needles will make a scarf approx 45" long. Hope this helps.

Just wondered if anyone can help. My mum wants to knit herself a waiscoat ( she feels the cold) .She's had her current ones so long she can't find the pattern. Does anyone know where she might get one. There are no knitting/craft shops near here. Thanks
PS Aldi have Aran, Baby wool and that weird stuff for making scarves on offer!

There are thousands of free knitting patterns available online. Just remember that a waistcoat is called a vest in the USA! But you can always search for UK only websites. I googled free knitting patterns and got 91,000 results - the 4th one is for here on MSE!

Rosy I have the American Afghan book and am in the process of knitting it with my mum. H ave decided not to do all the squares as we don't like them. Not encountered too many problems with the instructions but have only knit a couple of squares so far - some are pretty complicated. I am having a problem with the squares working up smaller or larger than their supposed to so having to undo quite a bit. Hope this helps

Keep an eye on ebay. I've seen quite a few old patterns for waistcoats on there. Also do a search for gilet in the knitting pattern section :)
  • Am about to attempt first ever button hole in 3 rows time. Scary!

  • Oh, yes! I voted too.

Just a quick question from a novice - why do some patterns say to slip a stitch at the start of each row - does it give a neater edge??

Yes, it makes the edge neater and stops it being baggy.
