Hi everyone! I'd love to learn how to knit but I don't have anyone to teach me..I bought some needles and wool a while ago and a book but I can't get to grips with it. Where does a non crafty beginner start and is it too difficult for someone who isnt normally good at crafts or with their hands? I dont want to get too ambitious at first just like squares I can make throws with or scarves etc...Havent even a clue if the needles I got or wool etc was the right sizes - all seems too complexWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Lots of small wool shops have knitting groups which meet in them - if you were to go along to one of those, I'm sure someone would teach you what you need to know. It really is one of those things that's much more difficult to learn if you don't have someone to show you and check what you're doing.0 -

Thanks folks but my pc doesnt have sound. I will try to google/peruse etc some links but I need to know things really basic as recommended size/gauge of first needles and type of wool etc. I have some I got already last time I tried to teach myself - 3 mm 40 cm needles from wilkos and 100g of 100% acrylic double knitting wool which I think it says needs 4mm needles???
I will be going out to the shops tomorrow so any tips as to what to pick up would be gratefully accepted. Thanks. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

For Double knitting wool you'll need 4mm needles but you could get away with 3 3/4 or 4.5mm as there's not much in it. Go to a proper wool shop as I'm sure they'll be more than willing to help you.0 -
Is anyone else here on Ravelry? (I think it's https://www.ravelry.com) It's got a great community and stash of patterns - I'm currently knitting some lovely cabled wrist wamers.0
