Dont spoil my dream savvy... Im sure with some rosy cheeks drawn on with lipstick and a nice side parting the lad working in the shop would be fine wearing a frilly pinny :rotfl:

I agree with you about the Lakeland thing. I love going into York and Harrogate, I adore "proper" little shops with goodies and gorgeous little things.:j
That lad is going to run a mile!! :rotfl::rotfl:

Yeah I loved the Shambles when we went to York, I love independant shops so I can get things that are different and not the same ol' tat as everyone else ;)

Does anyone make and sell cakes on here??
If so, do you need any certificates etc??

Im trying to get on the first step of my cupcake shop... best to start small and build up!

The really sad thing is I hardlys ever eat cakes, I just love looking at the lovely colours and designs people use when making them!

I make sweet things all the time, cos Im curious to try things out and end up throwing loads away cos neither myself or OH eat much sweet stuff!
I used to make cakes a few years back, but not as a major business, if you are doing that then I would assume you need a food hygiene certificate and perhaps a food handling course

And if you don't eat much sweet stuff then you'd be the ideal person to do it as you won't eat your profits! ;) Test your trial cakes out on friends and family instead :D

Have you noticed yet how I'm not going to let you NOT do this venture! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I really really want to do it, Ive got some of those strawberry cake cases just sitting around ( the ones that people have made flannel cakes with) and I`m wanting to have a go at making some really girly pink cupcakes with pink frosting and pink sugar and hearts.... I love designing things.:j

Last time I went into York the Christmas market was on and it was rammed, so OH and myself took ourselves off to "Browns" restaurant and had welsh rarebit and cappuchinos... mmmm!
  • Hey Poppypops next time you go to Bath, drop me some of your cupcakes off in Bristol and I'll test them for you :D

No, no, no need to thank me hun :P

P.S those Carolyn Mackenzie cakes are gorgeous, but have you seen the price!? £300 for a childs birthday cake... speechless! I'm sure you can do better than that Poppypops :D

No way would I pay £300 for a childrens bday cake! Id much prefer to make one myself.

Ooo Sarah of course I would let you test them, but Im way up North hun, quite a way from Bath:rotfl:

Ill post some pics tho when Ive made some up.

    Yey thanks specialK :T

Thats a great site, she has a nice tutorial to show you how to make those pretty sugar flowers, the ones that other woman charges £300 for pfffft :rotfl:

Thanks, I have self taught myself over the years. Now I am looking into making a career out of this, everything is easy. I am not armed with a wealth of tools and still want zillions more!

You get to see the rewards quicker with cupcakes, they take no time to cook and they are decorating almost straight away, not like my oroject for my Dad's cake at the weekend...four hours baking, 12 hours fiddling!

    I loive that blog :)

You will need to go to Health and Safety. They are really helpful and give you alot of advice. You also need to obtain a Food Hygeine Certificate.
