Comments

you didnt wash it though?
the sugar can do real damage to a mobo.
remember though, the washing process is not guarnteed to work. but its certainly better than just letting the laptop dry out.Get some gorm.0 -
If you wash it use distilled water.
*ooooohhhhh 100th post!!*0 -
Did you manage to dry it out?
My dh spilt sugary coffee on my laptop when it was week old. It woudnt dry out. I told Dell it just cut out on me so they sent an engineer out. The engineer obviously knew what had happened but still went ahead after all he was getting paid by dell so he didnt care what caused it!
I needed a new motherboard as the sugar coroded some of the parts on it.Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -
The reason we are getting a flood of problems like this is becasue there are thousands of new laptop users out there after christmas. They dont realise how fragile they are and they leave them in places like where there are kids with drinks of have a drink on the arm of the sofa while they play on ebay.
The number of times I have been called regarding drinks spilt on keyboards in the past is stupid but then its just £20 for a new keyboard people don't realise that it isnt just a keyboard now its everything under that that doesnt like liquid.
The best advice as ormus said is to rinse it out before the sugar and acid in the juice gets chance to do any real damage. but remove the battery before doing it as it is a power source and power doesnt like water. distilled water is best but it doesnt really need to be distilled it just removes the chance of water marks being left everywhere. try not to get he screen wet as that can be a !!!!!! to dry due to the layers.
The most impotant bit is to leave it switched off drying without the battery for at least a week then leave it for a few more days. do not be tempted to try switch it on.
Result's? it may work after the above I have had some sucess with this on customers laptops. it also stops the keyboard from becomming sticky.
If it doesnt work then your laptop should be free of any trace of juice as a result you can then phone dell and tell them your laptop isnt working, when they come to have a look they wont see any remains of juice and should repair it under warrenty.0 -

   Im so livid
I went off for a shower asking a friend who is visiting to watch the kids and I come down ten minutes later to fine my 2 year old standing over my laptop with an empty glass. The laptop is new and only a month old

Ive tried drying the keys but it wont come on (just a green light for 2 secs). I then tipped it onto its side and more juice came out
Is there hope? My additional warranty papers are in the post. Will this come alive again? So upset, I could cry :'( :'(
I used to work for a laptop technical support department and your problem is common I'm afraid. If you're lucky the liquid hasn't seeped to motherboard under the keyboard and if you leave it to dry it'll be ok. If you're unlucky and the motherboard has got wet then I'm afraid that could be the end of it and will need replacing at some cost and may be cheaper to replace. Sorry0 -

You're so right. After Xams the calls used to come in when I did IT support for a laptop company. Wish I got paid a £1 for eaxh call..I'd be rich unfortunately. As you say people don;t realise how fragile a laptop is.0 -

I don't think I let it dry out for long enough. When I first powered it back up it told me the AC adapter was incompatible. Next time I tried, I just got the leds on - power, caps lock, number lock, shift - they glowed and then went off.
Dell support tried to diagnose the problem (remove memory, power on; remove battery, power on - no difference, just the leds on and then off), so it's being returned to base today.
No doubt they'll suss that it's "user inflicted damage" - if they do, I'll just stump up, if the cost is reasonable. It was only delivered at the beginning of January!
Just an update - and I've posted on the Five Star Service Board ......
Dell are replacing my MB free of charge .... but probably because I'm a "good customer" who hasn't claimed on the warranties of 3 previous Dell purchases and not even used the service call center.
Nevertheless ..... Delll were brilliant. I can't praise them enough. :T :T :TWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

This happened to me last week and I never even bothered to call Dell as I was sure it would not be covered under warranty(bought in September...Vostro)was thinking of claiming on home insurance.
Did Dell replace under warranty or extended cover policy?(I didnt have one of those) would it be worth ringing Dell?0 -
so what happend now?0
