your home insurance may do though?Get some gorm.0 -
Have to admit that I spilt wine on my lappie last week ..... and it's bu88ered. Only about 1 inch of wine, not the whole glass.
I don't think I let it dry out for long enough. When I first powered it back up it told me the AC adapter was incompatible. Next time I tried, I just got the leds on - power, caps lock, number lock, shift - they glowed and then went off.
Dell support tried to diagnose the problem (remove memory, power on; remove battery, power on - no difference, just the leds on and then off), so it's being returned to base today.
No doubt they'll suss that it's "user inflicted damage" - if they do, I'll just stump up, if the cost is reasonable. It was only delivered at the beginning of January! :mad:Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Any real chance of it working was lost when you decided to try to turn it on, electricity and liquids don't mix, you've probably shorted it. Never try turn things on until they're dry(leave it like a week).0

I think there should be a sticky on this. So many people spill stuff into their laptops, ipods, phones etc... and the last thing they should do is try and switch it on. May help some folks!0

It's a ood idea the only trouble is people only look on here after they have a problem and by then they've usually tried to switch it on.
There does seem to have been a flood of these problems lately though. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Pun intended?
Now you mention "flood", I read on other sites that you should wash out any spillage using denatured alcohol and then allow the lappie to dry out.
A word on drying out ..... do NOT expose the lappie to any artificial heat source i.e. don't put it on a radiator to speed things up. Don't put it in the oven, either
Just leave it at room temperature .....Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

In a worst case scenario, what would the damage be? Fried MB? worse?

washing and drying seems to work in lots of cases. even when its been switches on.
electronic circuits have lots of protection built in. so it isnt always the case that the mobo is bugg-ered.
you dont have anything to loose by trying. but you must leave it to dry long enough.
i cannot emphasise this point enough.Get some gorm.0 -

Pun definately intended. It's usually safe enough to put them things in an airing cupboard to dry out. It's my problem, it's my problem

The MB is more than likely stuffed.
I spilt a glass of fizzy pop in mine, darined it as quick as I could, let it dry out. Nothing.
I ended up claiming on my house insurance (Direct Line) and got a brand new one with 10 days for the £50 excessIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0
